JUST INSTALLED A DUNLOP 120/90/18 WWW ON THE FRONT AND I READ EVERTHING I COULD ON THIS SITE PRIOR ABOUT THE TIRE RUBBING AT 50+ MPH SO I CUT OUT THE CENTER PART OF THE FENDER BRACKET BUT RAN INTO ANOTHER PROBLEM.

THE LEFT (FROM THE DRIVER SEAT)HALF OF THE FENDER BRACKET IS RUBBING ON THE TIRE WITHOUT EVEN DRIVING IT YET.

NOW I DID REMOVE THE FORKS TO HAVE THEM PAITED BUT THEY APPEAR TO BE EVEN IN LENGTH AT THE TOP AND THE AXEL IS NOT BINDING SO I THINK IT IS IN SQUARE BUT I CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT.

i GUESS i COULD MODIFY THE BRACKET FURTHER BY CUTTING OUT THE CONCAVE PORTION OF IT BUT WOULD RATHER JUST FIGURE OUT WHAT I MAY HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY THAN YOU GUYS?

PLEASE LEND ANY HELP YOU CAN.

THANKS

RICH

Speedmasta: My solution was to buy another fender brace and making it one inch "higher" by cutting/welding using the bottom part of the old one. After some black paint was applied, noone can tell it has been modified. Hope this helps! Oh, btw. Using all caps is like shouting...

Thanks very much for posting this. I just mounted a Triumph legend front wheel with a nice fat front tire, and because the Legend wheel is an inch smaller in dia I didn't have a problem with clearing the fender. But I had never thought to check the side clearance where the wheel passes through those protrusions on the fender bracket. I checked as soon as I read your post and was surprised to see the clearance is miniscule. I have taken the fender off for now and will have to cut out those pesky protrusuons before I can go out in the rain again.

Thanks for the heads up.

Chris

I fixed the side clearence problem. It was simple, I just loosened the two allens on the left side (from the driver seat) and applyed a little pressure outwards with a screwdriver. I found out that the left fork was too far inwards by going to the dealer and looking at one on the floor. It was clear that my axel was sticking out to far.

My fender still does not fit though as I don't have enough height with the speedmaster fender.

I have found a fender at a local chopper shop that will work and they can make the necessary mods.

Those fender brackets are pretty hefty for holding a plastic fender on. I guess they are made strong to be able to hold the fender at speed. BUT, I also think they act as fork braces too!!
Personally, I would not have cut the bracket.
I made some small stainless brackets to raise the fender. (I even went to the trouble of bead blasting the brackets to take the shine off them - so no one notices)
Now you've cut the bracket, I'd be doing as "Piper" has.
As they say in Thailand "up to you!"
