Greetings, All,
Okay... if you have a totally stock TBA, how many miles do you get per tank before you have to switch to reserve? Please give current total miles and milage per tank. What kind of gas octane? 87, 89, 92, etc?
On my new (last week) 2006 TBA I got 136 miles before resorting to reserve.
Regards to all,
Stan Db

I get 200-240 km (125 to 150 miles) depending on driving style. It's an 02 with 8000 km.

On my own, I can get about 150 mpg on a full tank of 89 octane before flipping to reserve: two up, it's more like 130.

120miles UK but not stock - unifilter, a1 removed, snorkels out and debaffled stock exhaust 17" cog front- rides well at 110mph and cruises comfortably at 90mph

Boy, seems like most of you get better mileage than I do. I run out (switch to reserve) usually between 115 and 120, but it's mostly around town. I did make it over 130 when it was all highway riding under 70 mph. Only use 89 octane. I wonder how much difference there is between odometers on the bikes?

Ok, not stock but Unifilter, SS Pipes, baffle out.
Usually get 42 mpg...very consistent even when bike was stock.

about 160 on 89 octane when it was stock back in 2002. around 135 just before I blew a piston rod on I-81 with a big bore, freaked and 150 mains and 45 pilots and sceptres. (89 octane is all I ever regularly use)

Last fillup was 2.1 gallons for 90 miles, so right around 45mpg. Still in break-in period.

148 miles to reserve, sometimes less, sometimes more, too many variables......If I don't hit it by 130, I start to check that I am not riding on reserve!

I've gone 130 to 145 miles before going to reserve the few times I've had to switch the petcock. I usually try to fill up at around 100 miles because I don't like to push my luck. Except when the OL's bike needs filling t the same time, I use 89 R/M octane like Triumph recomends. Since her big fancy Hog can't run on 89, I will occasionally fill both with 91 to save time.

I generally hit reserve about 130-140 depending on type of riding a do, Just put new Tires on (Pirelli, MT-66 front & rear) I think they will help milage. They definitly seem to handle great.
I was so much older then, I am younger than that now (Wrote By Dylan Sung by the BYRDS,)

Totally Stock..120-145, mixed riding town and highway, idling around 1100 rpms .That is with the reserve. Maybe I could get some more but I don't feel like finding out and end up pushing!

I have only had to switch to reserve a couple times. I dont remember what the miles was. I usually fill up between 100 and 120 miles and that will be between 2.5 and 3 gallons. It depends on the riding. If I am stuck in commuting traffic all weeks, I get a little bit better than about 42 mpg, hitting the road about 47 mpg. Overall, over a few weeks, lots of miles and different riding I average 45 mpg.

I started this message string and do wish to thank you all for your input.
My 136 miles on my very first full "I-filled-it" tank seems about average based on the above reports.
Once I get fully use to this transmission and she has over 500 miles I guess I might be looking at maybe 145 mpt.
For now I'll begin looking for a refill starting at about 115~120 miles per tank.
Again, my Thanks!

Make sure you take time to FILL it, I've thought mine was full before, and then carefully put in another 1/2- 3/4 gal.

With the Memphis Fats on I usually get to 128- 140 miles before I switch to reserve, depending on speed. With it off it's 140- 150. With another gallon on reserve, add another 30 miles before I'm desperate. I usually start looking for gas within 10 miles of switching to reserve. I put the 89-91 octane ethanol blend in because it's several cents cheaper here. I have an 03 TBA with about 17,400 miles on it.

My mileage to reserve varies quite a lot.
Full throtle in windy motorway riding has seen 98 miles!
Normal weather conditions and steady riding has seen 155 miles.
I've never had the guts to see how many in the reserve though ..
Unless it's already on reserve, I start looking for gas around 120 miles.

Rode about 200 miles yesterday. Filled up about 50 miles into the ride and now have 151 on the trip and still haven't switched to reserve. That is a lot better than my usual short trip distance before reserve of 115-125 miles. I'll post later with the actual MBR (miles before reserve).

I whimped out and didn't find out how far before reserve, but did go 154.6 miles using 2.884 gal. for a respectable 53.606 MPG. As I said on another thread, it's my butt that determines how far between stops, not the fuel capacity.

I always fill up around 135 or 140 hit reserve around 150. Only mod is running with speedmaster off road shorties on a 2003 TBA, rejetted for popping on deceleration. I am a "spirited" rider. But ride in Florida where every rode is straight and flat. You look for the cloverleaf off of the interstate just for some twisties.

Just started riding my dream bike, 04 TBA Green/Silver with AI and snorkel removed, everything else stock. Love the site and thought it was about time for my first post!
Ran out of gas yesterday while riding with a bunch of guys, hit reserve at 135 and went dry at 163 miles. All intentional, still learning the bike.

I have a stockTBA and I get about 120-130 till hitting reserve. Using 89 or 92 octane.

I have found that I get the best millage from 92 octane ( about a 3% price increase, 10% better milage). And I stay away from the brands that use ethnol.
When my bike was stock my MPG averaged 55 mpg. Now with mod's average 50 MPG.
And I fill my tank after 175 miles. The last time I had 182 when I hit reserve, and 206.8 when I found a Exxon. Took 4.085 gals.
Blue '03 TBA, Made in England. (50+ mpg).

One problem of how many miles to a tank is how full each person fills their tank. When I hit reserve I rarely put more than 3.5 gallons in. The tank is listed as 4.4 gallons total of which .9 is reserve. If you're putting in over 4 gallons just after hitting reserve, you're probably filling above the intended stop point which could easily account for an extra 30 miles or more.
Mileage comparisons do work if the person is always filling to the same point. Total mileage per tank obviously has faults. Also, I know my odometer is off, I wonder how much + or - they can be creating another comparison problem.

approx 230 km(144 mi) to reserve and I have gone approx 50 km past that when i was stuck. Quote:
I've gone 197 to totally dry.
Yeah, really don't want to talk about it.
but for the rest of us, do you remember when you switched to reserve? Your 197 to dry is about 315km so reserve might be good for 50 miles or 80 km.
Has anyone else run out their reserve? Inquiring minds want to know!

For me it's usually at least 134 miles to reserve and occasionally 150 or more if I've been easy on the throttle.
I usually stand my bike upright to fill and fill to the very top. I get 3.6 gallons in if I have just hit reserve. About 35-40 MPG with the Memphis Fats and lowers on. With them removed, and being judicious with the throttle, I can get 48-50 MPG. I have put 4.3 gallons in once and have never quite run out.
I have found my odometer to be well within 1% accuracy, the speedometer does not do so well.

I always put in approx. 3.5 gallons when I fill up after hitting reserve (assuming I find a gas station within a couple miles of flipping over to reserve), and that's almost always been good for between 142-150 miles consistently, whether putting around town to/from work, or extended riding on the slab at 65-70.
