Have got my new '05 Speedmaster. Looking for info on running the cycle in from new. I've done 400km at varying speeds so far ( nothing over 4 grand rpm). Next week the new staintune pipes go on and the AI system is removed and plugged. Thoughts on further running in procedures ???????

Just get the breakin oil out at the recommended interval. My book said 600 miles. Otherwise, just try to vary your speed and don't get on it hard until after you change oil. My Staintune instructions recommended 130 jets, but I went with a little bigger than that. You might try 135s or 138s. I tried 140s for a while but I felt that was too rich. Depends on your altitude where you live. I also, went with a little bigger pilot jets from stock 42 to 45. I even tried 48s for a while. One more thing, do yourself a favor and order some new stainless, hex carb screws from newspeedmaster.com. That's standard advise around here. The brass, philips screws strip out easily and you will be cussing.

Hmmm... I just thought of a question. What jets come stock in the newer, bigger engines? Same as the 03s and 04s?

Good luck,
John

Thanks for that John. When I get my butt of it long enough I'll have a look at the stock jetting!!!! Does anyone know where I can get the stainless hex carb screws from in Australia??

i dropped one of my allen carb screws and couldn't find it. i took an old screw and matched it up at the hardware store and got a lock washer to boot.

the only difference was it was black, so i used that one in the back where i can't see it.

brent ships wolrdwide, i think...???

If you are feeling exceptionally generous, consider substituting Extended Bowl Screws during the screw swap.

There are 2 opposing schools of thought on here about breaking a new bike in....
1. Ride it like you stole it.
B. Follow the owners manual.

Personally, I followed the owners manual with a few intermittent WOT escapades....

Worked for me, your results may vary....
