I have an extra pair of Speedmaster pipes (for my TBA) that I have modified a little bit. I have a hard time reaching deep into the pipes to cut or drill because of the tapered end. Could I cut the pipes and make my own slashes or would that be too much trouble? Any one tried? Can it be done or does it look too bad? What ind of saw would that take? Could I rent from Home Depot or should it be professionally done? I could easily modify the TBA pipes but am afraid of future NC emmisions inspections and want to keep the original pipes untouched. Any ideas?

Additional information: I have got both of the last baffles out on each side and today I was able to get to the second baffles with a long rod and break them loose. Now I can't get the broken peices out of the tapered ends! I'd love to just cut the things and pull them out!

I took mine to a local machine shop and they put them on the giand band saw and cut them off nice and slick. You could also do a slash cut too if you want that look. I figured they could cut nice and straight and preserve the chrome, they did, you could not tell they were ever cut. Worth the few $$ to have it look that nice.

Thanks Pat, the cuts do look good. How much did they charge to cut them for you?

You want to find a "drop saw" Its a band saw and the pipes will be clamped down so they dnt wiggle and its presto. any angle sharpness.

I slash cut mine in a chop saw a year or so ago. You just have to go slow and do a little deburing after the cut. Never had any problems with them rusting or such. The metal is thin however so you have to be careful or you can bend them quite easily.

That's the right name, a Drop Saw. I am an electronics geek, not shop. If I used power tools I would have less digits for sure.

As for the cost, they charged me something like $50 total to cut, disassemble, gut and tack on new compression nuts for the brackets, they had to mangle them out because they stripped and broke off the pipe, like mojust cut them for about $15-20.

Hi Joe,
I took mine to work and used the band saw with hydraulic drop and cut the tapers back (squared on the end, not slashed), leaving about .75" of taper. Everyone in Georgia that noticed it seemed to like it. They look similar to the pipes on a HD UltraClassic.
It opens up the rear of pipes allowing more room to gut the pipes. The hole saw could be used if you slice them off. I'll post some pics when I get time.
