No I did'nt just rent brokeback mountain... 4 blocks from home sitting at a red light, Wham!!! crunched the fender, lights and bent my rack...speaking of racks it was awful hard to get mad at this young lady...the bike did hold up very well considering...no riding tonight just aspirin and beer for my aching back...I was very pleased to see that she had insurance... like they used to say on hill street blues ( let's be carefull out there)

One more reason that the pleasure of riding to work has gone bye-bye...

BTW, Brent sells a very nice brake light modulator that flashes quickly then progressively slower when you apply the brakes. It's much more attention grabbing than the straight brake light coming on. Check it out.

Same thing happened to a fellow motorcyclist in Knoxville about three weeks ago but with a deadly outcome. glad to here you're ok.
That to me is one of the scariest situations, stopped a light and traffic approaching from the rear.
Remember to stay far enough back from the car in front of you and leave the bike in 1st gear. Be prepared to hit the escape route if need be.

i've been rear ended and almost rear ended. getting hit was less scary than almost getting hit because i was aware of the near miss and the real thing was out of the blue. glad to hear she didn't kill you. was there a cell phone involved? and remember, the more therapy you go to (generating a higher doctor bill) the higher the settlement will be. usually vehicle costs plus 3 times medical. well in maryland anyway...

Sorry to hear about that one. As if it isn't crazy enough in the lane-changing arena, here you are just sitting there and wham! Good she didn't push you into another cage or knock you over.

Gimpy, there is NO excuse for letting yourself get rear ended. THE ONLY THING YOU SHOULD BE DOING AT A LIGHT IS LOOKING IN YOUR REAR VIEW MIRRORS,FLASHING YOUR STOP LIGHT, AND GETTING READY TO USE YOUR ESCAPE ROUTE SHOULD THE NEED ARISE. Otherwise you are allowing your life to be put out by the next idiot that is not paying attention. Hope you remember that sore back for a long long time, it may keep you alive the next time. Sorry, no symp from me. Vegas

Damm Al, you're rough . And you ride in this same town that I do, so I know you know how some of those idiots drive .
Now you are right about the defensive thing, but I have seen accidents where there was absolutely no defense against the moron that caused it. And one was a bike being rear ended. He was at a stop light when the dumbass in the car moved over two lanes and hit him in the A end. Good thing he was wearing leathers, but still got up pretty slow.
If we could get those guys in Carson City to let us split lanes it would eliminate a lot of the danger of rear-enders.

Been there, done that....my '05 America was rear-ended in heavy traffic, just "bumped" her, just over break-in, broke tail light lens, creased fender. Geico paid $900, got the fender for $465, lens was $35, installed myself, pocketed the rest.

I had posted here that I didn't think the front brake lever activated the brake light, but piperdr pointed out that something must be amiss with my system. Sure enough. Now I see that there is a switch on the front brake lever, but mine is not working. I feel a little dumb for not seeing it myself, but it's good that someone pointed it out to me.

Regards
Cody

John,

If your hand (front) lever doesn't work your brake light, there is something amiss. Both foot and hand levers should activate the light.

Hi Barry,
You are correct. My bad. I just deleted my posting. Mine hasn't been working for a while and I assumed it was the design, but I just checked a lot closer and now I can see the wires underneath, and I can hear the switch clicking when I squeeze the lever. I wonder if it ever worked. It is long out of warranty. It could be the light bulb. I'll check it out.

Regards,
Cody

Have to agree with Grump on this one. You know the situation, but if you're back is sore, consider getting it checked out. I have some friends who are dealing with chronic stuff, where proper diagnosis in the first few days would have made a difference. Not that I always follow my own advice??

Glad you're OK.

+1 on the back stuff. My dad was rear-ended (his S-10 was squashed by a Suburban) about 15 years ago and he has back and neck problems to this day. Get it checked out.

Ah yes, the slippery slope of legal claims that the UK is begining to decend into.
