has anyone tried to take a stock seat and trim it up to make it lower and narrower? it seems like it could be done at very little cost maybe new leather?

I can take zero credit whatsoever but my seat has been recovered.

It has a layer of 'ordinary' foam and is covered with 1" of memory foam (the stuff used for wheelchairs and beds in spinal injury applications).

It's lower, sculptured and shaped better.

More importantly, after about 50 miles riding, it was bedded in!

Very comfy and looks good.

Oh, yeah, it's also leather covered with a blue piping around the back to match the bike.

Cost me £250 ($450) and I'm very happy with it.

a buddy of mine had the solo seat on his honda shaved,lower and narrower,factory foam and factoy skin just shaved for about $125.

I had my stock seat shaved and narrowed a bit by the local upholstery guy. He then covered it in a tan pleather. Cost me about $70

I had a guy in Gastonia, NC do my seat. Shaved the foam, and now about 1" lower than stock. It is much more rounded along the sides now, gaving it a better shape to fit my arse. He also installed 1/2 Gel, which really helped on long rides. I topped it off in leather that has the look of Ostrich

i did mine i think i posted some pics in the custom section
i took out 1 inch of foam put 2inch risers on from a speedy and you have a more in the bike feel

i've put a pic in of my cut down seat
the morrocan charged me 20 pounds sterling to cover it
comfort is not compromised
and it looks better

I did mine the Corbin way! Best money ever spent on the bike!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just got mine back from the trimmers today. I dished it out way deeper with the back of the seat more upright. It now feels more like a saddle that you sit in instead of on, as it was before. I radically modified the stock gunslinger seat to accept a bolt on pillion, with some springs under the rear of it. (Stay tuned to this channel for a future documntary, one of these months...)

The disassembly and foam sawing were a piece of cake. A problem I ran into was re-stapling the cover. A conventional staple gun doesn't have the oomph to pierce the seat plastic. I ended up using small self tapping screws which worked fine.

I wish somebody would make an aftermarket seat that was in between the stock seat and a "low rider" seat. I'm not at all confident that I could attempt to do any kind of seat mods without buggering the whole thing up.

OK, so what to use when shaving off some of the foam? Knife? Hacksaw blade? Time to mod...

Those that do this sort of thing tell me an electric carving knife is the best tool for shaping upolstry foam.

Idunno for sure - but thats what they say...

I don't have a electric knife, although I have used one on foam and stryo and it works pretty good. When I cut the foam on my seat I used a long skinny bread knife then put an abrasive disk on pneumatic side-grinder. Basically just sanded into the shape I wanted.
