Greetings, All,
I am considering buying a 2006 America but was wondering if there is any conflict between: a. Floor boards b. Engine guard
I remember reading last year about problems with Triumph's floor board chrome. Is this still a problem?
Any comments/suggestions on other items/accessories to consider?
D&D Cycles on Little Creek in Norfolk, VA will be the dealer - if there are no reported problems. Any comments?
Thanks in advance.

I have the boards and Ma's engine guard. No problems, rest my heel on the board and toes on the bars or the highway pegs attached to the bars. I will be at Butlers Orchard this weekend if you want to take a look.

I've been running with "boards" for four years now without any problems. It makes all the difference in the world on long rides.

Well, I did it! Friday the 19th of May I picked up my 2006 America in Mulberry Red/Silver.
And now I've 10 days to decide what "Free" accessories I want seeing as my dealer (D&D Cycles, Norfolk, VA) supports Triumph's "$500 in free accessories if you buy before June" deal.
Traded in my 1995 Honda Shadow "ACE" 1100cc with only 12,000 miles on it.

At least we're lucky in this. Brian at D & D is a good guy and will look after you well. Not everyone here has nice things to say about they're dealers.

The first thing I did before driving the bike away was replace the gray painted covers - foot peg, sprocket, and cam cover. Really improves the look of the bike. They should be either black or chrome from the factory.

If you buy the sissy bar consider the taller one. My GF tells me the short one hits her back at an uncomfortable for her location. BTW the triumph side bags are not worth the money.

Bogie's right. The short sissy bar looks good, but for a passenger there is a world of difference. With the tall sissy bar, my wife considers the stock seat very comfortable. Also I like the sissy/bar rack which is very useful and all sorts of luggage can easily be used with it (T-bags, etc.).

Thanks for your input. Yesterday afternoon I went by D&D Cycles and ordered: a. Floor Boards b. Light bar c. Extra electrical outlet
Also ordered: a. Tall sissy bar/rack b. Tach c. Engine guard bars
I'll get an after-market windscreen after I figure out what is available. I've seens some of the Triumph offerings and I'm not very impressed. I'm 5'13" tall although I recognize the America's ride is somewhat laid back.
Frank asked why I sold the Honda... although I take good care of my bikes I've wanted a Triumph since 1966 - Yes, sixty-six! Had some unexpected cash arrive. The Honda is a 1995 model purchased in 1994, and some things are beginning to get to me - the loudness and heavy vibs from the 1100cc engine plus the "$500 in free accessories" Triumph-America Inc. is offering until June just kind of made it all worth while.
Anyone care to comment on quality windscreens? I leave mine on.

For some reason my dealer is stearing me away from extra electrical outlet. Says it is for bikes in Europe and I should go to Radio Shack and see what they have. Long rides my iPod runs out of juice and I need a plugger inner for infusion of electrons.

Buy the outlet from Radio Shack. Make sure they are the standard outlet like the one in your car and not the BMW(as in smaller) one......Angelis

I sometimes find myself riding in Washington, DC, the land of flaming retarded drivers. When I began outfitting my America, I knew that I didn't want to die or be crippled under the wheels or, more likely, across the hood of some idiot's SUV so I spent my money safety-first. Therefore I bought and installed:
1. Kriss headlight modulator 2. Triumph driving lights with HID bulbs 3. LED indicator bulbs all-around 3. Kriss brakelight flasher 4. Stebel Nautilus airhorn
I consider loud pipes, but I really enjoy a quiet ride. I’m also thinking about making my turn indicators running lights.
Anyway, once I felt a little better about the odds of not getting killed by any idiot other than myself, I’m now spending my money to make my bike faster. Therefore I bought and will be installing:
1. The FREAK kit (with water repellent pre-filters) 2. 130 mains, 45 pilots, and a few shims and TBS needles for fun 3. AI removal kit 4. 18T front sprocket
If I would get loud pipes, I’d probably get the Sceptre pipes. And then I’d probably change up my mains and pilots as well.
Of course, when you’ve come this far, you also commit to a few other things. Therefore I also bought:
1. The Haynes manual 2. The “D†carb tool 3. A CarbTune II carb balancer
As for creature comforts, I bought the Triumph Roadster screen for me and the Triumph sissybar (with the rack) for all my ladyfriends. I haven’t made my mind up about saddle bags; I can’t find any that I truly like and are worth all of the many dollars they cost.
As for things to make my bike last only as long as I do, I installed an oil temp gauge, run Mobile 1 synthetic oil, K&N oil filters, and a magnetic drain plug (delusional paranoia, yes, and I’m taking medication for it, too).
I ride a green 05 America and I pick up a lot of chicks. Even big ones.
