Well it took just about 2 hours. hardest part was jetting, even with the stinless hex bolts it still took like 20 minutes to jet. only part that sux is roads are still wet/flooded to test ride is going to have to wait. everythign fit fairly well, still a bit dissapointed at cost because my friend got a nice chromed hypercharger and adapter for the same price, but there are no other options for us. i will be getting it dynoed so when i test ride it i will let you guys know what i think, then i will post dyno numbers.

ok took it for a ride, bike fired right up and seems to run smoother then before, noticed more tourque through out the range and the bike rips the first 3 gears, to much traffic to do any more then that. i have less popping then i did with the airbox, and the pipes have a different tone to them, hard to explain. so all in all i am happy. installation was a snap, didnt really even need the directions and everything fit good. now just to dyno it and see what the real story is

pics would be nice, a bit worried at how flimsy it is so not going to use the toolbox until i can figure something out. main focus is getting it dynoed

Mine rode fine for a whole year without support and no toolbox so you should be fine.

After rejetting (145s/45s) the with the Freak and Triumph Short Offroads I had the bike tested of a dyno. 64hp/49ftlbs. I was pretty pleased with the results and the tuner didn't recommend any further changes. Not a bad gain for bolt on performance parts.

I wanted to get the Freak for the toolbox - rather than modifying the airbox. Sounds like the toolbox aspect is rather marginal. Should I just modify the airbox, replace the aircleaner and forget the Freak?

Most of us don't use the supplied toolbox anyway. I reinforced the "mud flap"/tool box holer and now I've got a tupperware container in there.
Air box mods are free. The freak is not. You can try the mod, see how you like it, and go from there. Check out Tommy's pics for another idea for a toolbox!

one nice thing about the freak is it opens up a ton of room, which in turn makes the bike easier to work on. especially if you need to remove the carbs

Oh yes!! I should have the ability to fab up sheet metal here soon (ordered some tools) so I'm thinking of re-making a couple parts out of AL for weight and also maybe make more room for a box in there. Right now there is space UNDER the tool box, which has it's height determined by the chain. But my box won't stick out as far as the chain anyway...

Got a basic brake and bead roller/shear thing from Harbor Freight. And a couple drill bits for wood. That's about it I think my first project is going to be backers for my bags. Right now I have wood...

Ok. I see at the start of this thread that some one has finally mentioned the hypercharger. Do these work or are they just more HD bling bullsh@t? I have always thought of making a matching (mirror image) side cover for the left side of my America and mounting twin hyperchargers on it behind these covers. I could then move the battery under the seat. I reckon this would be a really sweet mod without being too ostentatious. So now the problem. How am I gonna make a mirror image side cover? any Ideas?

Brett,
Somewhere along the way someone built something kinda like that using some U bent tubing and had their pod filters out in the wind on either side of the bike. I forget his screen name... an I forget if their was any proven benefit other than it looked sweet.

boogieman also sells a somewhat similar mod, although from the pics it doesn't wrap around to where the filter is pointing forward. From the pics, it looks to be sticking out at a 45 degree angle. You can see it by clicking here.

Don't know if that hypercharger is any good, but back when, a lot of folk would switch the cams on their 650's, turn the head around so the carbs faced the front and stick on air horns instead of filters to get a ram effect. It seemed to work OK, at least untill their engine ate a rock.

Thats right. Over in aussie they advertise the hypercharger as "bolt on horsepower" and I suppose that there would be some air flow increase due to the ram air effect. I 'd like to fit a pair of them to my America and hide them behind a pair of side covers so as to keep the bike looking like a triumph. So as I asked previously, How do I make a mirror image version of the right hand side cover? Any geniuses out there that can think of a simple method to do this please represent.

You could TRY coating the cover with a latex mixture
then turn it inside out.
Do a cast with plaster of paris or such
then tweak that, recast off of that.
Just a thought!!!
