Raw, I prefer the Windvest. It's a few extra bucks, but the quality is outstanding. You can remove it in, say, about 30 seconds.

for a cruiser look the memphis fats is popular. for a less imposing screen the windvest is the high end and something like the slipstreamer viper is a good price-performer. stay away from the triumph screens. search this forum for other screen discussions, model #s etc.

I have the Slipstreamer SS10 Viper-It's a handlebar mount. Nice for occasional long distance ride-I wouldn't keep it on all the time. It has a quick release. No head buffeting. I'm 6'.

I've got the same as matt on my Speedy, the slipstreamer viper.. It's a quick release, but I've found that I really enjoy it's protection and have left it on. I'm 6' also, and the wind is deflected to the very top of my helmet with very little if any buffeting.. Very happy with it and the price is really reasonable (less than $70). But base your choice on size! Ideal is just below your line of sight to the horizon. The SS-10 is 17 1/2" or something like that. It may be too tall for shorter riders, and too short for taller riders. As is, I could probably go another inch higher, but it does a good job as is so I'm sticking with it for now Cheers, Brad

Price seems right for a sometime use windshield like the Slipstreamer SS-10. For you guys that have one, does it fit on the Speedy without any alteration to either the windshield or the bike. Does the mounting kit come with the windshield? Is install and removal real simple.

Yes, the mounting kit comes with the windshield.. just make sure you get the 1" kit. Fits without any modification to anything and two thumbscrews are all that is needed to remove (leaving just the mounting posts on the bars). Allen key is supplied for install and removal of mounting posts on the bars. Some people have replaced the thumb screws with allen heads also. Real simple.
Cheers, Brad

Brad Thanks for the response. Is the windshield effective on long rides to cut down on buffeting. I am also about 6' and would like something for those long 60 to 65 mph rides to add to the comfort.

My Speedy came with a Memphis Fats shield, 17" tall. I bought the bike from a Woman that bought the Shield at Sturgis. The removal took me 20 seconds, a snap. I'm not a shield guy at all, but will be riding the Texas Hill Country all weekend. I'm going to put it on this evening & see if it works for me (6'). I installed the low profile solo saddle from newspeedmaster.com last week. It really dropped me down, and pulled me back. Awesome seat.

I have found that on long rides that exceed 70mph, I am getting significant buffeting and strong wind between the shield and the headlight with my Viper. Wouldn't trade it for the price though. Good entry level windshield for those that don't plan on permanent usage. MrUnix shows that it can be used all the time, but it is perfect for limited usage.
I lived off Weaver Dairy Rd. on the extreme Northwestern side of Chapel Hill for 5 years. Where are you in Durham?

If you get the viper, make sure you loctite the bolts. If you don't, they will loosen up.

It does for me.. I put it on for my trip to the Georgia Rally and would have been misrable without it. I even noticed on the way back it kept the rain off of my chest and faceshield pretty well. That was the main reason for getting it.. I'm a pretty big sail in the wind without a shield, and long distance trips were a hassle fighting the wind at speeds over about 55Mph.
If you get the viper, make sure you loctite the bolts.
I've heard others make the same recomendation, but I haven't have any problems yet, and I've got almost 2000 miles on the shield since installed (most of those well over 75Mph). Maybe it's the way I have the mounting posts? I noticed at the Rally that most had the posts facing forward while mine are facing up.. Just a guess.
Cheers, Brad

raw, I just put a Memphis Fats on my wife's bike yesterday. I have the Triumph Roadster screen on mine. If I had to do it over, I would go for the Memphis shades for sure. 10 minutes to do initial install, 10 seconds to remove/replace the shield now. Very nice quality and excellent design.
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.

Motorcycle Accesory warehouse-That's where I bought mine. They sent me the wrong mounting hardware and I had to return the whole shield, but they refunded my shipping costs.

Tom, Clearview Shields is working on Triumph America/Speedmaster Summer Screen replacements that fit the factory mounting hardware. They built one initially that I tried and sent back. They are making another that will be the same bottom shape as factory but from the top mounting holes upward goes up a bit straighter and is 17" tall (18" above the headlight) with a slight re-curve at the top. This should eliminate the buffeting and wind hitting your head for riders up to at least 6'1". I should have the new one in by another week or so and will post pictures and info on this site. A light gray tinted one would cost about $150.00, a little less for clear. The stock summer screen works great except for riders over 5'8"" tall get hit in the head. This should look as good as the original and work much better for taller riders.

Tom, I think that once the mold is finished and they are satisfied with the results, it would be about 3 weeks. It could be less if a number of orders start showing up. I've been trying to get this right for about 9 months. I think this last change is going to be the one - they are hoping so as well. I didn't post info and pictures on the first one as I was really unhappy with the way it looked. They increased the bottom width along with the height. It turned out very "pear shaped" and didn't look as good as the stock one. The new version should follow the same shape but add about 3 3/4" and the recurve at the top. The first one they made did get the wind over my head (I'm 6') but was just too fat looking at the bottom.
