Frankly, I wouldn't waste anything after the first two words(F'em). Oh, he wrote back and asked if I'd join a Vintage Buick club if I had a Vintage Chevy? Hmmm, last I checked, both his motor and my motor were bolted up on the same line at Hinckley, not his bike at "The Real Triumph Factory" and our bikes at the "Triumph Harley Wannabe Factory"...

I really don't understand why this would stick in anybody's craw. He's right, they have their club. Why would I want to be part of a club that doesn't want me. Frankly they're more like HDiots if you ask me. His analogy was a little off though, he could have used joining a Corvair club if you had a Corvette.

This conversation has been around one too many times about BIR. They have their little club dedicated to a certain style of bike and that's the way they like it. They're probably tired of getting emails from the curious folks here. I have a second bike that would get me into their little club, but ya'll are so much more fun.

Aw, quit yer whining already. Who cares? It's their club. We have our club. We like to think that we'd let them hang out here but the truth is each organization has it's own unique culture. Are we more inclusive? Sure! Do they have to be? No! And the BIRs I met in Nelson, BC, last year were plenty cool enough - not snobbish at all even when confronted about this exclusivity.
Let it go!

Hey Greg We've had this before with them. Screw 'em! There's obviously some other underlying reason they don't want the cruisers in, so fugem. They obviously don't really want to say what it is so we'll ever find out. I'm guessing they associate cruisers with HA / Outlaw-type-Harley-riddin'-gun battles. Don't want to upset their sensitivities do we?? Up until the point where they've added "oh yeah, and we don't want cruisers in even though they fulfill every other criteria of the club" our bikes comply with their rules. Their rules could just as easily say "and no red / blue / black bikes with non-standard grips" ..... I'm more than happy to log-on here and associate with my America / Speedy like-minded friends. Like the t-shirt says, I have enough friends, so f*** off ...

That's a thought!
Would my Scrambler get me in or do I not count on account of the semi-knobbly road tyres?
After all, it's neither an off-road bike, nor a 'proper' road bike

Well, maybe they shouldn't post this on their website if they don't like getting e-mails about it:

No, don't have to quit my whining! So there. It's my party and I can cry if I want to!!!
I've let it go, but as I pointed out to the bonehead over at BIR in charge of membership (no wonder they're so small), how did he know I wasn't a standard Bonnie owner and just curious and decided to contact them to ask before joining (as their site encourages), so for him to get all pissy about it was a pretty lousy way to represent their club to prospective members. Hey, they can be as inclusive or exclusive as they want, and I'm sure most members aren't as snooty as this guy, don't really care. And it's now out of my craw, and in my crapper where it belongs...

Well...NOT to start an "international incident" here, but those "Rockers" DO have a point.
"Rockers"(in regard to M/Cs) is basically a BRITISH reference. It became the term used for "old-school" british bikers who eschewed the "Mod" look and music of the mid-1960s, and mostly rode "Cafe-Racers". This sub-culture of motorcycling never really made the jump across The Pond and into the american national consciousness.
We Americans, who customized our Triumphs back then, for the most part, didn't bolt clip-on low handlebars and rear-set footpegs to our bikes. We bolted either wide Flanders flattrack bars or "buckhorns" or "ape-hangers" or maybe even drag inspired "Z-bars" to the triple-clamps.(or as most of my fellow 'mericans calls 'em..."triple-trees")
Often a set of forward mounted "highway-pegs" were added to the forward frame down-tubes in order to stretch out one's legs.(sittin' on the ol' tail-bone in order to compress one's spine is ALWAYS real bright...but it sure 'nough LOOKS cools, right?!)
So I'll ask you guys somethin' here.....
Which of these TWO examples of the differing ideals of what a motorcycle "should look like", that I've just laid out for you guys here sounds like most of the bikes that WE ALL RIDE HERE at BA.com, HUH???
I'll give ya a hint.....the word AMERICA is emblazened upon MOST of 'em!(Speedmaster...and a few others)
So I can see why those Brits and their american OVERLY anglophilic brethren, "ain't to crazy" about havin' us "good ol' 'merican types" joining their little stroll down Memory Lane!!!
Once and for all....That little group o' theirs ISN'T about TRIUMPHS, it's about the STYLE OF MOTORCYCLE.
I say, LET 'em have their little fun.
Cheers, Dwight (but to shows 'em how OPEN-MINDED one can be, I'D invite 'em to ride wit' ME any ol' day o' da week...but I'm just an ol' softie)

Well Pete....in essence, THAT'S what I just friggin' SAID...but in my typical long-winded(and explanatorily succinct) way.

Stop makin' excuses for those Rocker-wannabes!!! I still say we go kick their butts!! Especially since he said our styling comes straight from Milwaukee! Well, he and I have stopped our little exchange, of course it was only after that that I wished I written something along the lines of "funny how I'm getting the same kind of attitude from you that I'd get from a HOG member (also 3 letters, like BIR), when you'd think it would be all of us Harley-clone riders that would have the attitude you're sporting..." But I didn't, it's over and done with and I'm done pouting! And I did as much tell him that, unlike him, we'd welcome any standard Bonnie into the pack, just as welcome SpeedTriple riders (like Mad), or Hondagirl...(course I might dremel off his masterlink while he's not looking if'n he did-hee hee heee)

Darn it Greg! Now I'm really confused . I have a Davida helmet w/goggles, sometimes wear cuffs in my jeans, w/my harness boots, even bought the British Iron jersey Soren designed. But the bike has buckhorn bars, bags, highway pegs, the whole shooting match, even added fringe to the seat to confuse and bewilder folks. Wait, I voted for John Anderson back in '72, mostly to irritate the elephant and donkey parties. That doesn't help either, as it just irritated my parents and sister. JH

well, there is peace and harmony in the Universe and birds are singing... But really, got a nice e-mail from NCBonnie over at BIR apologizing for the whole tone of his reply, sounding like a snob, and any misunderstanding, etc, so now I can finally get some sleep at night. Geez, I just feel like the weight of the world has been lifted off of my shoulder. Ok, not really, but it was a nice peace offering...

Hmmm Greg, when YOU say "our kind" it makes me curious as to what kind you might be talking about
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.
