So my company shut down my office a couple of months ago, and I haven't found a job yet.
So I am getting a little depressed about it and figured I would do the mature thing and run away for a while.
So the question is: Should I ride from Dallas to Seattle and see my brother?
or
Should I ride from Dallas to Key West, just cause?

Do both. Look for career opportunities along the way, and don't forget to keep a CD with your resume on it with you. That way you can write-off the trip as a Job Search situation. Good Luck, Brother.

There's a lot more good riding between Dallas and Seattle than between Dallas and Key West. OTH I believe that bars stay open later in Key West.
Good Luck, Hugh

You could spend 2 months in New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, etc., etc.
If heading to FLA, watch out for the blue-haired weeble people in cages !!!

Plot your course via website members!! Food and a place to stay! And that's a good idea to write it off as job hunting! Cheer up, hang in there...it's riding season and there is a job out there somewhere. What were those tools we are supposed to take on a trip?? Credit card, phone, ...and add prayer...maybe not in that order, though!

My neighbor just got back from Key West and swore never to return. It seems that it's quite the tourist trap. He said everything was so overpriced. If your heading east, theres a lot of nicer places to visit.

I think the ride up to Seatle would be much nicer, imho. There are a number of highways going the lenght of CA I would love to ride on a motorcycle. http://motorcyclecruiser.com/rideanddest/index.html

Take the ride to Seattle. We have tons of great roads up here in the Northwest. Let me know if you go through the Portland area.

By all means, pack up and GO WEST OLD MAN. In the mid 70's, I was on unemployment in Calif., told the office I was going to travel looking for work. Loaded the bike in the van and went to visit my parents in Jersey, friends in Georgia, brother in Fla, cousin in Texas, etc. I stopped at local unemployment offices along the way, filled out forms from the companies I found in the local phone books. When I got back to Cal six or eight weeks later, they had all my back checks waiting for me. Try it, you will like it. TR

Visiting your brother in Seattle would be the best thing. I don't know what kind of work that you do, but you may find a job up here. The only thing that's wrong with Seattle is it being veeeerrrrrryyy liberal. The mayor of Seattle and our phoney gov is trying to outlaw simiautomatic rifles and pistols.

Good plan!! Bikes are great therapy, and really no more expensive than a decent shrink.
So the question is:
Should I ride from Dallas to Seattle and see my brother?
or
Should I ride from Dallas to Key West, just cause?
To me, that's a no-brainer. Seattle, and I'd do it something like this, with a little flexibility for impulsive curiosity:
Dallas
Amarillo
Santa Fe
Durango
Silverton
Grand Junction
Vernal
Jackson Hole
West Yellowstone
Butte
Missoula
Spokane
Seattle
Now THAT would be a great ride!

There should be a separate section of the forum where you submit a post saying that "I'm looking for a couch to crash on within 50 miles of xxxxxx,xx on xx/xx/xxxx" to facilitate such rides.

My wife and I did NH To WA To AK To Tx To NH, in 2002. Not on the bikes, in a jeep, we camped the whole way. It was incredible, to anyone thinking about doing this. Do it, now rather than later. This is an amazing country we live in, and must be seen to be appricated. I would go Dallas to Seattle if I was you. And run rte 1 from northern California, to WA. That was beautiful. Buy a national park pass and camp in them. Its much cheaper than commerical sites.

Key West... via Seattle.
If you have to do a "short" ride then Seattle via NM/AZ just for the amazing terrain. Plus you'll certainly need a stop in Vegas. Nothing wrong with getting away for the summer...
