Hey all,

Just got a copy of J&P's Metric catalog dumped on my doorstep. Page 513 lists a Green Light Trigger. Looks like a strong magnet that alerts the light that you're there.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has spent frustrating minutes at a light before you realize it's never going to change because it can't see you.

Was wondering if anyone had any experience with these things. Sounds like a gotta have to me if they're reliable and work.

I have a stop light by my house that my car will trigger but the motorcycle wont, so I bought two, one for my bike and one for my wife’s. So far the light still will not trigger with the motorcycle. I even put both Green Light Triggers on my bike and still no light trigger.

So now I just wait for a car or use an alternate route. Good luck.

Everybody I know here in Cali just runs the light when it is safe. We also creep into the intersection and tell the cager behind us to creep up closer as well if it makes sense to. Too bad that trigger doesnt work!

States use various types of sensors that won't work with every type of green-light trigger. Best thing is to check with someone in your state to find one that is effective, and recognize it may not work in PA, etc.

I "had" two tie wrapped to the bottom of my frame. My personal experience in VA is, they don't work.

Ambulances use them a lot-they do work. A cage driver was recently arrested in Denver for using one, and had to pay a big fine.

Arrested for using a Green Light Trigger? Maybe you have this confused with something else. The GLT is a chunk of magnet that is suppose to cause an electronic register in the switch under the pavement since a bike isn't as large a magnetic or weight trigger as a car. Nothing special or illegal about it.

There is a light activation device that some localities have installed at intersections and on emergency vehicles. They do something like a strobe that changes lights to green so they can get thru more safely than with just the flashing lights and siren. I think it is illegal for citizens to do this. But that's not the magnet thing.

The most effective thing is to convince the ACLU that badly calibrated traffic light sensors is a form of discrimination. Those magnet things only work when the calibration is not very far off and the light is almost tripped anyway. Otherwise, the only way they would be able to make the average motorcycle look like a car is to emulate the metallic mass of a car. They would have to be made of uranium to have that much mass, and you probably wouldn't want to ride the bike.
