I currently have TOR on my bike (03 SM). I have not changed jets but I Am considering it. It does POP on decel. Will adjusting the air screws help? Will it be enough? 3 turns out?

I have a 01 BA that i am going to completely MOD out later....I just want the SM to not POP so much. IF I can get by with just turning the screw it will be great and I can put all my money in the other one

But how fast are you going when it pops?

asbestos suit on....

Ok really, unplug one spark plug cable.
start bike (after you unplug the wire...ouch, sorry)
Start bike
turn the pilot screw until the idle maxes out then stutters a bit, back off 1/3 turn
Repeat for other cylinder. (be sure bike is off when you grab the plug wire. Why? hee hee, you'll know quick enough why not...) zap ouch ...
Repeat, then the idle/ 1/8 TP is set.

What's TP? Throttle position...dunna ga me stardid!!!

OK a little help needed. The caps are still covering my screws. How do I get those out so I can adjust?

Thanks

Get a sharp screw, thread it into the tiny little hole in the cap, put a pair of pliers or vise grips on the screw, and gently tap with a hammer. They will pop right out....

I have been out there with a black drywall screw trying to get it to screw in and I cant...Thats why I asked on here. How small of a screw did you use? Gonna go have some wings and beer and Ill try tomorrow after a few more people comment on a newbie trying to fix something.

Thanks for the help so far guys

What ever you do BE CAREFULL.... Just ask Moe.. I broke my carbs. That is why I got the CR II. All I can say is be very very carefull. Dont know what these guys say but you might be able to use a very small drill bit (fingers only no drill needed) and make that hole a tiny bit bigger..

I, like my father before me, (whose stuff is now all over my garage...) am a pack rat, so I have some of every kind of hardware ever made....
I tried drywall screws myself when I did this. I ended up using a very thin, very aggressive, sheet metal screw.

As was mentioned, this isn't bridge construction here, you're working on carburetors.... Tappy tap vs. slam bang crash.

If all else fails, see Dinqua's site and pull the carbs off where you can see and get at everything.

Success. I got a small drill bit and used a right angle attachment on my dremel tool......GO SLOW and it works great.

Adjusted 3 turns out and will ride tomorrow to see if it helped. Idle and revving sounds better with almost no popping.

Thanks for the help guys

I used the sharp little sheetmetal screw and gently/slowly...threaded into the little pinhole that existed. Then a few taps to seat it in there strongly enough to grab and then take hold of it with pliers and a few side to side wiggles and they came out. Took a few times though.
