Here in Washington State on the East side of the Cascade Mountains many cagers feel the need to have studded tires during winter months. This along with heavy trucks cause ruts in our highways. Prior to placing new asphalt down the surface is ground down leaving a grooved surface. This makes riding a motorcycle to say the least challenging especially shortly after the grinding has been done or the right hand lane where there is less traffic. I have found it's best to slow down to about 50 mph, not fight it, let the bike move around a little and make small smooth adjustments. Anyone coming to this area, please use caution. We have at least ten miles of this.

Man, I remember my first time across a grated bridge...it was a big, long, high international bridge over the St. Lawrence River...LOL...scared the crap out of me! They still make nervous.

The stock Bridgestones on my America were downright scary. The tread pattern on my new Metzlers are offset, so they don't follow the grooved pavement. 100 times better than those Bridgestones.

Hit some grooves yesterday and the bike sure was "skittish" with the Bridgestones. You sold me on the Metzlers when change time comes around.

Have a few highway construction projects around here marked "Motorcyclists - Use Extreme Caution". Uneven surfaces consisting of gravel, rock, spots of loose sand. This BA seems light enough on it's feet to handle it all in stride. I mostly keep a sharp lookout for the soft spots and baseball size rocks ready to ambush your front tyre. Fortunately it's all done behind a pilot car at slow speeds. I think an accident would resemble the tricycle guy on "Laugh In".

It's a bummer when you end up following the dust control/water truck for a few miles. I saw a guy with a sportster last weekend at the local car wash, looked like he's been in one of those hill climb competitions.

Groovy...

For me the worst thing I've encountered is the huge potholes in I-81 in NY last fall, in the dark. I clocked a giant hole crossing a bridge. Thought I broke something on the bike and a tooth or two. Stopped to assess by flashlight, no harm done but got the bejesus scared out of me.
Traveling by car on the NY Thruway this winter, the potholes were so huge, I was stuck in a 2 mile back-up caused by disabled vehicles. The holes were so deep, three cars had tire blow-outs. Can't imagine hitting one of those babies with the bike.

I usually take highway 2 when I go to the Chelan Rally in June. Have never really noticed this. I always notice Ricks? Drive-in in Cashmere. Great burgers and shakes. Looking forward for the passes to be snow free.

Hi Larry (Oilleak): I hope they will have the new asphalt down by June. They are working on it now. You must be referring to Rusty's Drive Inn. They are great people. I have never heard of the Chelan Rally. Your link did not work for me. I will be tied up anyway. I am getting the GF family's home ready for sale, but maybe next year.
