I am looking for a new pair of riding glasses. A while back I found a website that had Windjammer Day/Night Auto tinting riding glasses, which seemed very interesting. I cannot find that website. Searching for the Windjammer riding glasses has been unsuccessful. Any suggestions for riding glasses and in particulare any information on the Windjammer Day/Night Auto Tinting riding glasses?

I have several pair at this point. I wear prescription glasses to begin with so I have some standard Over RX sunglasses that I got at Walmart that are comfortable and do a fair job of sealing out wind shear that can cause the eyes to tear up at speed.
I had already bought some "Guard Dog" aggrssive eyewear earlier that serve the same purpose. I use those when I am up on the highway or interstate cause they seal completely over my glasses and keep all wind shear out. I have both a clear lens and a smoke dark lens for the guard dogs. They are treated with anti-fog and never fog up. The lens can be swapped out easily. I found mine at the local Harley shop but you can buy online as well.
I dont own a full coverage helmet and I hate those snap on face shields so a good pair of goggles or glasses are a must.

Kuryakyn are selling windjammer sunglasses. Go to www.kuryakyn.com, click on "the shop", then click through a few pages and you'll find them. Matt

Try http://www.panoptx.com/ and go with a transition lens. They can also be made into prescription. I've ridden up to 75mph without the slightest irritation. They work great and the transition 5 lens will cover you day or night.

Panoptx makes a great riding glass and you can get the photo sensitive lenses as well. They're not cheap, but then nothing worth having is.

I wear similar glasses like these for riding, skydiving and during training in the shoothouse. They have been a great, all around peice of eye protection for me!

I just picked up some Wiley-X JP-4 glasses this week. They are the shnizt. Metal frame, magnetic foam, and day-night lenses. It was like pulling teeth trying to find a dealer with Wiley's in stock. I found a biker chick Wiley dealer that met me 5 minutes from home with 5 different frames! I liked the JP-4 the best, and she gave them to me for $100. Not bad.

Has anyone tried Costa Del Mar sunglasses for biking? They are really made for water sports, boating etc. (GREAT on the ocean if you are a boater). They have some kind of polarization that makes the contrast more or something and gets rid of glare. I live in South Florida and strong sun is a big issue...but I don't know if they block enough wind around the eyes. Thanks for any advice if anyone is familiar wtih these (before I spend $$$).
BTW I have a pair of kinda cheap motorcycle sunglasses with foam, they're OK but fog up easily and block peripheral vision. I also have a pair of H-D sunglasses, cute but the wind goes right around them (I have a windshield and 3/4 helmet but no face shield...see heat and humidity index in summer in Miami)
From proud new owner of Bonneville America Goldwood Green, have put almost 300 miles on it already.

got scrip glasses from riderseyewear right in florida. do you need scrip?
i found that when i wore contacts it was hard to find the right pair of glasses for all conditions--must have 8 pairs of no prescription glasses for the bike. lots of it is trial and error.
if you do a forum search under glasses you might find some good info and maybe even something about the Costa Del Mars.
welcome to the site.

Welcome to the forum Andrea. congratualations on your new bike. I have been through a number of riding glasses and also had a problem with wind getting around the glasses that I have been using. Does make it hard to see when that happens. I purchased an expensive pair that were just too small to wear with a 3/4 helmet. Found that out on a ride out to Belle Glade. You know if you ride for a few miles your eyes quit watering but don't stop or they will start to water again. I went over to Wal Mart and got a cheap pair that wraps around and are very dark for that western sun. These have proved to be good enough for now.

Hi Andrea,
Welcome to another South Florida rider!
I agree about the sun and wind being major problems here. I searched and searched, tried on many sunglasses, and ended up with Costa Del Mar! Have no idea which model but they fit better and closer than all the rest.
Your best bet is to look around, try them on and see which ones fit you the best. Definitely get polarized...

I have bought a few pairs of Global Vision glasses from this site. http://foxhillfarmleather.com/They are inexpensive and do the job. They are not perfect, but the ones with the foam are pretty good and keep most of the wind out. I have a couple of their sunglasses for daytime and a couple of their clear lenses for night.

Hey newt, Here's Costa Del Mar's website but they are way too expensive there. Look around the web. What retailed for $160 I got for about $100. btw, I looked at mine and they are the TU-11 Turbine model. I was able to get prescription lenses in these also. Here's a pic: Go to the sunglass places, try them all on, and find a pair that fits you the best. Then surf the web for the best deal.

Dear God People! Go to a welding shop and get some safety glasses. They are cheap ($6-$12), provide excellent protection, totally stop the wind from blowing in your eyes, and are extremely effective. I took 10 pair of some decent $6 ones to Georgia as "givaways" but I've not heard any feedback. I love mine, even though I have to push 'em back to my face occasionally since I got such a huge head.

I believe Skillet is referring to the polyplastic safety glasses that will go over prescription eyeglasses. I will have to try using these on my night ride this Thursday. I am most interested in how well they will block out the wind shear.

Great recommendation Skillet. I now keep a pair of clear poly safety glasses in my bags for night time wear over my prescription lenses. I wore them home during a night commute last Thursday. No tearing of the eyes at all at speed. They are a nice cheap alternative eye protection for riding.

Ahhh.......not always true my friend !I bought a few supposed riding glasses that turned out horrible. One had the foam around the edges to keep wind out. Still they sucked the wind right into my eyeballs. Then i happen upon a cheap (read:$5) pair of glasses at one of those eyeglass stores on hollywood blvd and i just liked the look and thought what the heck. Long story short, the way they are shaped happens to be just right for wind and even at 90 i have zero problems. They've been nailed with huge bugs at speed without even a scratch. I liked em so much i bought a 2nd pair figuring they were so cheezy they'd be scratched and worthless in a few months. That was almost a year ago abd i still haven't needed to open the 2nd pair ! Yes, there ARE exceptions to that rule.
