Been awhile since we've done a mileage thread. Just wondering if anybody has done over 50,000 miles on their bike yet? (That's 80,000 km for you metric people).
Looking for maintenace issues too. I figure by the end of the year I'll have 50,000 on mine(close to 38,000 now), so I'm wondering what to expect. Things like...how long will the rotors last, fork seals, etc.

Nup... 35000km/21000 miles in just over 2 years for me.. so at this rate I won't get to 50000 miles for another 3 years. How old's your bike btw?

Are you having a laugh????
I'm only on 21,000. For a Brit bike, that's not too bad I don't think.
The arrival of the Scrambler and lately my VW, have stopped me clocking more miles on the America.

I'm guessing that if we all were lucky enough to live in AZ where you can ride all year...all of our mileage would be much much higher.

23k in 2 years on this (green 04) one. The first (red 03) BA didn't make it a year or 3k miles. The engine/gearbox went south in a big way. The green had a front rotor warp/replacement at 10k, but it was due to a combination of braking on mountain roads, cold temps and torrential hurricane related rain on a 1500 mile ride.

Well I did think of you Adey when I wrote about the rotors.
Since there's bikes around that are 4 years old, 50,000 miles isn't unreasonable. That's only 12,500 miles a year.

a hair over 23,000 (miles), need one new front rotor, 2nd set of front pads, new front tire (2nd one) and 2 rear tires (although one was due to a nail) and 2 rear pad sets. Otherwise, just oil, Brent goodies, and liquid gold at $3 a gallon!!!

I just hit 35,000 on a 02 america and hope to hit 50,000 sometime next year. other than pads fluids and 3 front and 2 rear tires. Getting ready for 2 new tire going to try Pirelli's MT 66.Haven't heard any comments on them so thought I would try them.

Derek, you are a fairly high mileage rider....I know you do a fair number of road trips. What is the furthest you have ranged in one day of riding?
I have no experience at highway riding. For instance if you run up to Phoenix do you typically run all the way up without a stop or do you "stretch your legs" once en route?
I imagine if the wife is onboard you are more likely to stop for a breather. How long is your leisurely ride up to Sedona? The fuel range on these bikes is a limiting factor so not much over two hours of riding wihtout needing to take a planned stop based on how long your route is and the availability of gas stops along the route.
Do you hang right with the four wheeled vehicles as far as traffic to Phoenix. It often moves at a steady 75 to eighty miles an hour on that stretch I know. I would think that much beyond three sessions of mileage based on the fuel range would be enough for you to get where you are going.
Beyond that the nether regions must get a little sore and the call for a cold one is invoked.

Well let me tell you about this day ride I did last May. I-10 to Lordsburg, NM, then up to Silver City, over 152(which is why I did the ride, to ride 152) to I-25, then down to Hatch(mmmm...green chiles!). Took a shortcut on 26 to Deming, then blasted down I-10 to home. I think it was about 530 miles total, and a 13 hour day with lots of stops, pic taking, and 2 meals. 2 up I've done 400+ miles in a day, but my wife doesn't like more than 250 miles in a day, and I can't blame her riding on that skinny pillion pad. Going up to Phoenix, I keep up with traffic and then some, usually doing about 80 mph or more. IME it's better to get away from those 18 wheelers and slowpokes than to loaf along and allow them to congregate around you. I usually stop in Eloy for gas at the Chevron station with the McDonalds and Carls Jr next door. Then my next stop sometimes is the rest area about 30 miles up the road, or lately I've been stopping at the Love's truck stop across from Firebird. But on the whole, I hate the interstate and would rather take an alternate route, too bad there isn't a good one. The Oro Valley/Catalina back way used to be okay a few years ago, but now there's just too much growth in that area to take Oracle and then 79. Last time I went to Dwight's in Prescott, I went interstate all the way up 17. This time I am going to try a different route. Maybe go out I-8, and then up 85 from Gila Bend which comes out in Buckeye. From there take I-10 back into Phoenix a bit, before taking the 303 up to 60 and out to Wickenburg. To me I-17 is the nightmare heading out of Phoenix, so that's what I'm trying to avoid. From Wickenburg it's up 89 into Prescott. I've taken the 303 before, coming back from Laughlin. For me I-10 isn't nearly as bad as I-17 or that 101 loop. It's about 240 miles going that back way to Prescott. But we have all day to do it, and 89 is a nice ride out of Wickenburg and into Prescott. The rest of it sucks though.

I think there should be a 25k or 30k club for those of us in the northern climes. A little side trip after work saw 25555.5 roll over in my odo.

Derek, on your "back way" to Wickenberg, you don't have to take I-10 all the way in to Cotton Lane, which subsequently becomes the 303 Loop.
Instead of going east off Rt. 85 on I-10, you go west for about 3 miles and then turn north off I-10 onto Sun Valley Parkway and go around the west side, then along the north side, of the White Tanks Mts. SVPkw bends around to the east, becoming Bell Rd. Just take Bell to the 303 Loop, go north for a couple miles, and then make your left onto Grand Ave.
Lot nicer ride and none of that darned west side I-10 traffic. Wave when you go by!

Just over 17000, 19 months riding. One new rear tire, new rear brakes, one tail lamp. Oil and filters at 4k intervals.
I was at 12800 New Year's Day, and hope to see 20 by the 17th of June - I'll have had her two years then.

Im sorry, only pulling your leg. Congrates on this momentous occassion.
At my current rate of annual milage I expect to hit that lofty figure some time around November 2052.

I'd like to meet the guy who came up with the idea of the little yellow head laughing, or smiling or making some other sort of expression and beat him in the head with a crowbar.
Other than that, I have had 44,000 miles on my 02 bonneville america since May of 2006 and have accumulated about 200 miles since. I just stopped riding her. I have 4 bikes and the america just isn't as fun as other bikes. She still is the prettiest but my Tiger blows her away in every category except looks. I will never sell the BA but it is a beast. The only way I would really enjoy riding her again is if I give it more power and agility. I will keep my beast and enjoy the times I have with it but I am looking more towards speed, power and manueverability. I don't think I will ever get the other 6000 miles needed to achieve 50k unless I have a change of heart.
I actually have DUCATI on my mind.

In two years since I've started this thread, I've put on 23,000+ miles so I'm up to 61,300 miles now. Just changed the fork oil yesterday for the 2nd time. Should have done it at 48,000 miles, and I don't really know how it slipped by. Might need a new rear tire before Prescott next month. The book says to change fuel lines every 2 years, and brake lines every 4 years, but I'm not seeing any wear on them. Might do it next year though.

I am at 38,400 miles and the bike is 26 months old from the date I picked her up new.
I may well roll over 50K this year as its only late April and the riding season is only just underway. Sturgis will spike the mileage in a big way.

2006 TBA purchased 05/19/06 22,000 miles but wont put too many miles on TBA this summer to have total hip replacement surgery July 7th, no riding for 8 weeks minimum 12 at most that brings to Sept if I'm lucky. But next year watch out, back to Canada, and with no pain in right hip after long rides , rides will be much more enjoyable. RIDE SAFE,

I tend to average a little bit over 6k a year which I think is pretty good for a 4-6 month riding season. But I'm at 37.5k and have no desire to increase my annual average. I want many more years of riding bliss before I have to do any major overhauls. Eventually I'll have a second bike to share the duties and reduce the mileage toll on my TBA.

Darn, I'm still a four digit midget. Luckily, with this new assignment I've got significantly more time at home which equates to more time on the bike. Bliss

I thought this was a new thread! That quote was from back in 2006, on the 2nd or 3rd page in this thread.
I just cracked 40k a couple of weeks ago, and should crack 41k this weekend, despite the rainy forecast. She'll be 4 years old to me on June 17 (production date 07/03).
I'm on my 4th set of tires, front and rear, all Metzlers. I've changed rear brake pads 2x, fronts once, spark plugs twice. One driving light failed, so replaced both with 55w bulbs (much brighter than the 35w stock bulb), and the tail light failed once, and a bulb in the speedo did a couple of years ago, too.
I changed chain and sprocket sets at 22k. Installed Barnett clutch springs recently due to re-jetting for TORs, and other than Touring Seat and Short SS Bar w/rack, and doo-dads from Brent, just replace the Rotella-T 5w-20 Synthetic oil every 4k, or thereabouts.
I really worry about when the next d*rn bulb is going to fail me again....
