I am about ready to spring for a Memphis Shades windshield. What size cutout is better the 7" or the 9". Thanks for any info. Dennis

Hey Dennis, I bought a Fats 19" with a 9" cutout at an insane discount. The 9" is huge, but there's plenty of room to stuff a keilbasa sausage in the gap in case you get hungry. I have since lowered my shield by using a RotoZip saw to cut into the headlight hole 3 inches higher, and I used the 7 inch dimensions as a guide. I did this because I had less buffeting with a 15" Slim than with the taller Fats. I am going to try a Slipstreamer Spitfire, MemphisShades PopTop or Shooter windscreen next, before I get a Windvest.

Dennis,
I got the 7" in a Memphis Pop Top. If I do it again I'll get the 9". The 7" fits down over the back end of the head light, but it won't fit around the widest part in the front of the light. The lamp itself is 7 inches in diameter. The cowl adds about another inch overall. If you get the 9" you will have about half an inch gap around the edge.
Rob, how does the 7" fit for you?

I have the Alley cat...due to the location of the clamps I think it fits great...I have about 1/2" +- free space around the lamp housing between the screen and housing...it falls about 1/2 way on the lamp housing...not sure I could even get the screen out to the end of the lamp...so clearence should not be an issue...others may mount more forward...but I don't know...with mine the way it is I'm very happy I DIDN'T go with a 9" cut out....the keilbasa comment above comes to mind!

I went with the 9" and am happy with it. My headlight is in the stock location and nothing has been done to the hardware around it. I have about one inch clearance on each side and the top. If I moved the headlight forward I would want the 7" cutout.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.
