Hi Everyone- On my 06 America the plastic housing that holds a screw to bolt speedometer cable to front tire hub broke!!! Anybody know of a cable with metal housing that will work that will screw into our speedometer and then to our front hub ? I know if I buy a dealer replacement cable that little plastic housing down by the front tire hub will just brake again. Mine Was cheaply Made. Any ideas or do I just have To buy a OEM dealer one?

The OEM cables didn't used to cost a lot of money. I would buy another one. My 05 had this stupid rubber thing that held the cable aligned with the bracket at the front wheel. it broke I didn't notice and then my bracket failed. I replaced the little rubber deal with a cable clamp that was metal, never had another problem with the bracket itself.

Anyhow, I suggest just getting another OEM one.

When mine split I did a home "fix". I used s small amount of JB Weld on the split and a small zip tie to secure the plastic piece in position. Has been there for many miles now. I figure I will need to replace the cable if I have to take it out again but it works for now. The screw does not need to be tight, just snug.

09 America, some modifications

mine broke in the same place after a couple years, I replaced it with a new OEM cable and then just zip tied it to the brake line above (with the appropriate loop in between) no problems since. Just 2 little black zips, not even visable.

one little thing that I recall about the OEM plastic end, it is held to the hub by a flat head screw. The countersink in the plastic peice is not machined but cast, making the mate with the screw less than perfect. this may well be the reason for these failing.
Easy fix, use a 90 degree countersink and drill motor and give it a light clean up/ skim cut.

otherwise useless information - For those used to imperial hardware, the 90 degree is important as that is metric hardware angle (imperial is 82)
