This will be my first summer living in Florida and have a question about oil. I've always used Mobile 10w40 and was wondering if moving up to Shell 15w50 would be better for the heat here in the summer. But I do have a concern about engine heat. Does the higher weight cause the engine to run hotter? Thanks

'06 America, Raask foot controls, the bike use to be Graphite and Silver, now its Red and Black.

I can't say if the engine heat will be different, never measured it. I run the now recommended 10W-50 motor oil these days. I have run 20W-50 in the summer (was all that was available at an oil change) with no issues. The only difference I could detect was motor noise. The top end engine clatter was toned down just a bit with 20W-50 compared to the 10W-40 that had been used previously.

09 America, some modifications

Depending on where you moved from, the heat in FL isn't that much worse than of the summer heat in most of the US, it just lasts longer.
I can't imagine that engine heat is affected too much by the miserable humidity. A/F ratio maybe, but heat?

The ride may be fun, but in the Great Scheme of things, it really is about the destination! John 3:16
