Hi All,

another owner on the other forum has suffered an idler gear boss breakage on his Bonnie. The Safe Start is cheap insurance against this occurring on your own air cooled Triumph twin. Don't be caught out by the only weak spot on the 2001-2016 twin engines.

Easy mod other than cleaning off the old gasket.

Just do it.

I read where his breakage occurred on an early twin. But I thought Triumph addressed this issue back in 2005 or 2006?

'06 America, Raask foot controls, the bike use to be Graphite and Silver, now its Red and Black.

That is true, I don't remember exactly what year they fixed it anymore, also do not give the bike throttle to start. My 04 never kicks back, it's tuned properly and I do not give it any throttle when starting.

Triumph did try to address the issue by adding thin buttresses either side of the idler gear boss, but this wasn't very successful, as later year bikes with the buttresses still suffer boss breakage.

I believe if Triumph had made the boss with thicker walls and thicker buttresses, the problem would have been cured, but they didn't!

Mike
It seems like ages since we've heard from you, unless I missed it. Hope all is well.

All is well, thanks Mac, I hope it is for you too.

I'm real busy these days and don't get time to frequent the forums as much as I used to.
