Seeking a bit of advice here, a recent check on valve clearance shows several of them are just out of speck. The cams have never been out before so I'm wanting to know the sequence that the caps should be loosened, my haynes manual tells me to start on the right hand side first where there is no pressure sounds ok to me, but the triumph manual tells me to evenly and progressively slacken them but in no particular order, both manuals give a tightening sequence which are the same, should I assume the loosing sequence is the opposite? I have found one instance on you tube where they are loosened from the left side and another where a guy explains what he is going to do and that is to start on the right side, so to those who have done the job I would greatly appreciate your help.

I do them in no particular order and slacken each a little at a time in a pattern so I can keep track of what ones I have done. I just do small turns until there is no pressure on the caps.

Thanks Ian for your reply, just wondering though do you use the tightening sequence as illustrated in the service manual ? One last question to anyone who has done this, is using the timing marks on the camshaft only without using the alternator mark a wise idea or not..thanks.

I don't use the sequence but it can't hurt. I do not use the alternator mark, I never take that cover off. I have heard of people getting it wrong that way but I never have.I just make sure not to move the engine once I start disassembly until it is fully re-assembled. If you get it wrong you will bend valves.
