I have an 02 TBA with 10,000 miles. Exhaust manifold bolts are severely corroded. I assumed due to the corrosion on the stud & nut that hold the exhaust manifold to the head that the combination would be hard to remove. I have broken many exhaust manifold bolts removing them over the decades. So I saturated the 4 with PB blaster-same as Aerokroil but cheaper. Fortunately the bolts all came out quite easily. But the nuts are stuck or corroded on the studs. So I'll get new nuts & studs & use anti seize & not allow the new hardware to get corroded like the previous owner did. Anyone had this same issue? Did you use torque seal when installing new studs? Being the hottest part of the engine transferring the spent hot gasses outward seems common sense to keep this area clean, dry & free of moisture & stud & nut threads lathered in anti seize! Comments appreciated.

Last time I replaced my exhaust gaskets I had the same issue. 2 of the nuts came off and 2 of the studs came out. I just reused them and went on my way

Occasionally there are Stainless manifold studs offered on EBay. As you stated, anti seize is indicated to stave off future struggles, when the time comes to remove them. I use a Nickel Based, nuke/powerhouse grade anti seize as a standard practice, whenever Stainless and or extreme heat is involved in one or both joining parts.

I have used stainless nuts and bolts all over my bike, almost every time I take something apart I use stainless to put it back together.
I learned all I need to know about life by killing smart people and eating their brains.

Yea, me too. Stainless outlasts Chrome. Not quite as high a numbers in Tensile strength as Carbon Steel, but close enough for the Girls that will still ride with me..Remember, never use a Carbon Steel Wire Brush on Stainless or you'll be disappointed next year when you see the Rust that developed from Carbon assimilation.

It's real easy to get high grade stainless rod. I just chuck it in the lathe and thread it as needed. I use a special moly anti-seize mix now days. http://www.airrifleheadquarters.com/catalog/item/251484/42989.htmYou can get a 60% mix from Honda. WalMart and most Auto Parts places sell a lesser grade. If you get the good stuff? Be sure to wear rubber gloves! That stuff is wicked evil!
