Don't buy a Thruxton if you don't like talking about your bike. While waiting for ferries over the last couple weeks more than a two dozen people have come over and asked all about it. The usual stuff; what year?, they're still making bikes?, who makes that? what size is it? where's the dealer around here? I used to have one of those, etc. The other bikers around me were getting tired of hearing the same questions and answers. But I am patient and answer all of their questions and convey to them my extreme pleasure with the bike. The ones that ask how much absolutely can't believe it. Lucky for me the wait for a ferry is only about a half hour at the most.

It seems to me that Triumph should be supplying all its classic bikes with a pocket-sized laminated FAQ list. Then we could all learn the appropriate reponses to all those damned questions!
Enjoy that Thruxton, dude.
If life wasn't so pointless and absurd, I would take it more seriously.

I'm curious about how the Thruxton compares to the BA/SM's...would like to hear the thoughts of someone who has ridden both. TM

TM They aren't really comparable. Apples and oranges, or cruisers and sport bikes. The riding position alone is dramatically different. The Thrux is very agressive and will take some getting used to on your wrists. I slipped some foam sleeves over the stock grips to help absorb shock and distribute the weight better. It is 50 lbs lighter and 75cc bigger so a little quicker (I think) I can't really compare the HP since the TBA has K&N's and the Thrux still has the stock airbox. As far as handling, I think the Thrux handles better. Going into a turn head first is really different. Once you get it over on its side you can really roll on the throttle and it sticks. I don't feel as comfortable doing that on the TBA. Plus you can lean over further without dragging anything.

Do you think the bars could be raised any? Don't know if I could stay bent over that far for very long...but I love the look of these bikes.

Same thing with my Speedmaster. My roommate has a new Honda VTX 1300 and no one says a word to him about it. But everywhere we stop, some guy will wander up and ask about my Triumph. Even the Hooters chicks like it better. What can I say...a Triumph just exudes class.

Well the factory bars can't be raised, but you can buy aftermarket bars that are about 2" higher and 1" back at Norman Hyde.

MarkRam...what did you black your headers with, and why not the mufflers? I've been wanting black pipes without having to send them to Jet-Hot.

I sent the headers to to be ceramic coated at Performance coatings in Auburn WA. I took about a week and cost $100. I guess I could send the exhaust, but not yet. The headers are coated inside and out and when they do mufflers, they only do the outside. I think it was money well spent.

"Don't buy a Thruxton if..." You have arthritis in your wrists/elbows/shoulders?
OK, I' kidding. We all know one can get nice aftermarket bars for just such a situation.

You know that decal on the tank that you peeled off without looking at it??? The one that starts with,
"What is that anyway? Where is it made? Who made it?"
"This is a genuine Triumph motorcycle, made in England by people who are actually interested in motorbikes..."?

Do you think the Hooters chicks in the latest Torque would sit on my BA for pictures? I would never clean it again!
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Hiya Mark I had a new '03 T100 and stopped at the Post Office in the next village, just as an old guy (possibly in his early 70's) parked next to me. He got out of his car and said "You've made a lovely job of that son"! I was like .. "er .. no .. it's .. er .. er .. thanks" I didn't have the heart to tell him!
