I installed a set of Progressive 440 rear shocks on my bike this winter. Finally, the weather broke somewhat here in MD and I've taken a few rides. I noticed a squeak from the right side shock. I squirted a little lithium grease on the shock shaft, but the squeak persisted. Tonight, I decided to remove the shock and put some grease on the two bushings and a little more lithium grease on the shock. As I went to remove the top fastener, discovered it was barely finger tight. Could that be my problem? Tightened it up and the squeak disappeared. All the other three fasteners were tight, so not sure what happened. Morale of the story for me is to pay attention to odd noises!

How can you hear a squeak with all the wind noise and aftermarket pipes? Warren

Glad to hear(bad pun) you found the problem before something serious happened.

Sounds like somebody should have bought a cage instead, if all you want is the uber silence of a Mercedes.

Only on very low speed corners, kind of driving me crazy. I'd hear it leaving the driveway and returning. It was a good incentive to go faster. Fortunately the nut didn't fall off. Not sure the shock would have came off, but on a big enough bump, it might have.
Sunday, with the wife on the back no squeaks at all. Course she was running her yap a good bit... <g>

I did a 290 mile ride last Saturday. Sunday was cleaning the bugs off and found the right side fork screw on the top T was backed out about half-way. Talk about thanking God for getting me home...

Which is the reason the good lord provided us with wind noise and aftermarket pipes.

Well that's good news! Funny thing was, I did so much work this winter, I went back about a month after reassembly and checked all of my fasteners. Don't think I missed that fastener, and it not, it sure loosened up quickly. I'll keep an eye on it for a while. Hope I didn't bugger up anything. I had a tough time getting the first set of Hagon shocks on and tightening those bolts. Using the factory torque setting caused the rubber to mushroom out and tear. The Bella Corse guy said no reason to put them on too tight. Right.

I give mine a wash and found the top right side tripple tree fork bolt GONE! Only reason I saw it is 'cos of the side stand angle letting the handle bars fall to the left while I was drying it off!
