The America I recently bought modified from stock including putting aftermarket risers (taller with more pullback) and drag bars. I did not care for this and went about restoring the bike to OEM. With the OEM handlebars on the bike and the aftermarket risers the throttle cables are too tight at full lock right, binding up the twist grip. I'm considering rerouting the cables down the right side of the frame to gain some slack; has anyone had any success with this?

Yes, been done often. Must have SM cables or custom cables on it.

Are the cables disconnected at the handlebar or from somewhere else in order to reroute?

Handlebar is the easiest. Disconnecting at the carbs can be a PITA.
