We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

I laughed all through the bootcamp scenes of Full Metal Jacket as they all seemed absolutely familiar.

That is his best known but he had so many other great roles too.

Yeah just watched “7” last night with Morgan freeman and Brad Pitt. Ermey was the police captain. He did a lot of great character rolls. I wouldn’t Have wanted to be one of his recruits in boot camp. One tough leather neck jarhead.

In my somewhat limited experience, they are all pretty much like that when in the DI mode. They have a school where they crank em out. Ermey epitomized the breed.

Yeah my Army DI was a grizzled old Vietnam vet. With yellow eyes. We all thought he stayed high most of the time.

While he is perhaps best known for his DI role in FMJ I really enjoyed his television show Lock N' Load. He was an American Classic!
