Hi, I'm new to motorcycling, new to the site, and new to my first bike, which is a Triumph America. As you all know, on the gas tank there is an instrumentation cluster, in my case a central tachometer, a neutral light, indicator lights, and also two empty holes (filled with rubber gromets). The dealer who sold this to me (Harley-Davidson) did not know what these might be for, and the manual does not tell me either. Can anyone tell me, please?

Thanks!

Ironically, and I say this because of your chosen site name here Michael, if instead of a tachometer one has a clock in the center console, the other hole is for a rubber covered button which electrically sets the time by adjusting the clock hands forward and/or backward.

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Here I always thought one of the holes was for the optional running lights. You know the 2 big lights that are next to the headlamp on big cruisers.

Those have their switch on one of the light housing buckets. Although I relocated the switch to the left side hole on the chrome panel in question and plugged the one on the bucket.

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Hi all and thanks for the responses. And sorry for my tardy thanks, but (and this is very embarrassing) I forgot to bookmark this web site, and it's taken me almost three months to refind this site!! Ay ya!!

So happy new year, and thanks again for the help.

Oh, and a couple of you asked where I am . . . in the sparse countryside of eastern England, where the roads are narrow, often covered in farm-mud, laced in old oak trees, and full of twists and turns.

Hmmm...now why is it I'm now envisioning Patrick Macnee driving around in a 1926 Bentley and/or Diana Rigg doing the same thing in a '65 Lotus Elan?

(...I wonder)

Dwight, your references usually (but, not always) fly right over my non-movie watching head. But thanks to the miracle of Google, I can usually find the answer. This one was no exception.
