I will be replacing my Natioanal Cycle windshield this year with something different. I like the look of what I have but I experience alot of turbulence when I get up over 100k (60mph). Someone suggested lowers which may do the trick but I can't get real excited about adding those. Any suggestions for a cure. It's a rather expensive investment to go the trial and error route.

The lowers were the single best thing I did for turbulence coming from below and if you already have a cruiser type windscreen they don't look that much worse. They also have the advantage of being relatively cheap.

One suggestion: At speed on your bike, fold one arm across your chest and see if the turbulence is reduced - if so the lowers will help.

I have a Summer screen, which lowers would work on the BA?

I know it seems unlikely, but I (and several others) have found that putting visors on the headlight/s can really cut back on the turbulence you get with a large screen. At only a couple of bucks per light it's worth trying before investing in a whole new screen.

The only ones I know of are made by Memphis Shades. Here's a link Memphis Lowers
You have to order part #MEM9891 as the mounting kit. They don't list any for Triumph bikes, but these are the ones that will work.

I am suspicious that the lowers would not help that much with the summer screens. I think the darned thing just lifts the airflow over the screen and points it at your nose.

You can try the arm-over-chest trick I described above or try borrowing a pair of lowers - they're not that hard to install and remove. If you're going to georgia you could try mine.

Longmtnman, the biggest problem with the Triumph Summer Screen is possibly being too short. If you are taller than 5'8", the buffeted wind hits you right in the head. Clearview Shields http://www.clearviewshields.com/index.htm has just finished making the first larger factory replacements for the America/Speedmaster Summer Screen. The first is 17" (factory is 13 1/4") and will also feature a slight reverse curve at the top. They also plan to eventually offer one shorter and taller than 17". If you are intested, you might want to call them directly to avoid confusion with other Triumph models they make. My replacement should be arriving very soon.

CHOOSING THE CORRECT HEIGHT SHIELD IF YOU PREFER TO LOOK OVER THE SHIELD:

When looking over the shield, the ideal height would be to just see over the top of the shield by about 2". You should be able to look over the top edge of the shield and see the ground 50 feet in front of the bike while sitting in your normal riding position on a level surface. It is a good idea to have someone hold a tape measure up the shield while you are sitting comfortably on your bike and see where that height is.

At this height, the shield will be tall enough to get the air flow up and over you, making a nice pocket behind the shield, while still having a Clear-view over the top.

CHOOSING THE CORRECT HEIGHT SHIELD IF YOU PREFER TO LOOK THROUGH THE SHIELD:

If you prefer through the shield for the quietest ride and most protection, it is good to have the top of the shield 2"-3" above your line of sight so you are not looking right at the top of the shield. This will also give the passenger a quieter pocket.

I've had my Clearview repl. shield for two years now, and it's still perfect. I went with the large one.

All I can say is by the recommendations I've got in here the Windvest seems to be the best. I've got a Rifle Solo Shield ordered for about half the price of the Windvest, I'll report on it once it arrives and is installed.

I favor Windvest above all the sheilds I have had on 6 different bikes. it is small, with beautiful, easy installation, no buffeting at any speed.

I would suggest calling windvest. I have my doubts as the mounting hardware they sent me would seem to require a horizontal section of handlebar-but who knows, maybe they can accomodate the ape hangers?

Check the April "Motorcyclist", pg 167. There is an advetisement for a new shield distributed by PartsUnlimited. It is shown on a HD with ape-hangars, looks very nice, sort of tombstone shaped. Interesting attachement (quick detach) to the handlebar at the risers, very clean looking. The website they post, www.sportechnic.com is under construction and nothing shows under the PartsUnlimited site. Maybe if you email PartsUnlimited they can source for you. I think you will find the look appealing, almost like it was made for apehangars.

Never mind, riding my bike yesterday I realized that shield will not work. The mount places the shield right over where our speedometers are located.
