My wife still wants a Gold Wing or Ultra Glide treatment on the pillion. Not happening for me.

I'm a bit underwhelmed by this new Speedmaster. Shorter wheelbase, smaller tank, a LOT less rake to the forks, less suspension travel...

Very nice, though, nonetheless. I trust Triumph knows what they're doing. They've been hitting home runs a lot lately.

This won't make me want to trade in either of my current Speedmasters, though. And that 2004 just keeps on going. Like a TIMEX never even thought about....

Nope, sorry, I just can't warm to it.
I've tried but all I see is a bobber with a dual seat.

I reserve judgement until I see it in person, but from the pictures I've seen I'd like it for a second bike to keep my Commander company in the garage.

Im trying to imagine my Beloveds response if I asked her to tour Scotland on the new Speedy ....whereas we happily did so on my TBA LT this year.
I'm afraid the new seats just look like they're a Triumph of styling over practicality.

I'm liking it.I would prefer twin shocks but,oh well.

There's always the touring seat available for the new speedmaster Al.

I pulled the trigger today and placed a deposit on the new 2018 Speedmaster. Phantom Black and Fusion White.
First one for my dealer but Triumph has pre-orders in the US for 28 already.
Expected delivery date is late February or early March

Going to be a long winter, but it gives me time to sell a few things and raise some capital.

Congratulations Mike! That is the color I like the best. It reminds me of the '02 TBA black and silver paint scheme. Are you going to trick it out for touring?

Thanks, I've got a few ideas in mind, so yeah I'll add some personal touches. Probably have to think outside the box a bit for touring luggage with this design.

Good on ya Mike! I'm pretty sure there's one with my name on it too.I wish blue was an option.I may go with the black and just paint the tank.

I'm thinking the sissy bar and rack would work w my Iron Rider luggage. The Triumph windscreen for the new SM is pretty ugly though, IMO. The touring seat looks pretty cushy though. But I would probably not pre-order one. I'd want to at least sit on it first.

I agree Paul that windshield is horrendous. First thing I noticed. They have a seat option like the Commander, but in the picture I saw it looked a bit thin. What luggage are you referring to ? Got a link

I noticed that the wheelbase is 6 inches shorter than the older models. There is a pic on the UK site of a couple 2 up riding and the bike looks tiny. I'm 6 feet tall and one of the things I like about the older models is it is a full size motorcycle. When my bike is parked next to my buddies Softails and Dynas my 2006 Speedmaster looks the same size , it does not look small like the bobber does or like how a Sportster does.

I agree. I'm about 6'2" and I even looked a little big for my '02 TBA. So if this one is smaller, probably wouldn't work for me. Might have to get a Road Glide or Indian Buick Roadmaster.

NOoOoooo Paul! Don't do it.You have the T-bird don't ya? If I like this Speedy but it looks small,I could put my America back to dual seat and set the new Speedy up as a solo. There is also a rumour that there MAYBE an America coming back too but it is Only a whisper.

The Speedmaster is small as are all of the modern Classic Twins. And if it's anything like the Bobber it will be snappy quick.
The New Speedmaster seat height is basically the same as the seat height on my 2003 America.
Wheel base is shorter, this is primarily due to rake.
Heck my 2010 Tbird 1700 wheelbase was an inch shorter than the 2003 Americas, just sayin.

So maybe just maybe the big ole bikes are starting to lose their appeal.
Heck even the GoldWing lost 90 lbs this year

The windshield on my America is a Memphis Fats and the entire setup was not originally designed for it. I'm guessing we will have lots of choices as time goes on and people find other alternatives for lots of things.

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Take it from someone used to riding motorcycles around 850-900 pounds: When you're moving you're not aware of the weight. But coming to a stop and starting out requires some concentration, skill and strength. With a passenger and a full load for traveling increases the complexity. Throw in any kind of uneven surface and it can become an adventure.

I'm not complaining but there must be a limit on how much weight is manageable. I think Honda was very smart to put the GW on a diet. I hope some other manufacturers wise up.

Recently I sat on a Motoguzzi MGX21. At 750 pounds dry, this thing was so top-heavy it took a lot of effort to lift off the sidestand. A couple of smaller guys tried to get it vertical and gave up!

I never wanted to deal with a big heavy bike, bumping 900Lb.s on two wheels is more than I would want to deal with.
