2 days in a row 2 different bike cops sitting with radar pointed directly at me going down the same road in the same place. Both times, me 25MPH in excess of the speed limit both times I get a wave(as in hi), second time got a thumbs up with the wave. Am I awake or am I dreaming did I really just type this.

Word is out that there is a real bike that passes that spot everyday, so they are on the look out just to get a glimpse of how a bike is suppose to be. Soren

I speed past cops all the time, not just bike cops, and I've never been stopped. State patrol, Sheriff, city cops, doesn't matter. Of course, I'm just speeding, I'm not doing something off the wall like a squid.

Really, it's not a radar gun, he's taking pictures of your bike to show all the other bike cops to try and get the department to buy some real bikes.
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.

Here it is a mix of BMW's and those old Kawasaki's. One of the county sheriffs departments rides harleys just for parades.
I think the Rocket III would make an excellent police bike.

The cops around here ride harleys. The local dealers give them a wicked break on the price for a 1 year lease(Some dealers do a free lease). Due to the fact that a police edtion road king can be sold for over msrp even after 1 year of police use. Dill

My local boys in blue. Well, black actually. They ride Harleys. No, let me clairyfy. They being HE, rides a Harley. big Town this. I dont speed any more. Couple of weeks ago I got a letter from T-DOT explaining that if i get any more speeding tickets they would take my license away. They suggested that i take a look at my driving habits.

I wonder if one might be the same cop that pulled the OL over some years ago. She was on the way to work on the '54 Servicar. She was wondering why she was stopped, it only has 27 HP (factory detuned to avoid overheating) so she couldn't have ben speeding. Older cop walked around the trike pointing out various things to his younger partner sih as the right side shift that marks it as a retired meter maid vehicle, then asked what year it was. Then he asked her to start it up which, of course, took only one kick. "See that?", he said to his parter. "40 years old and it runs like a top. And look at the crap they have us on now...". Then he climbed on his kow police spl and rode away.

In Edinburgh they have a few unmarked bikes, Yamahaha FJR1300's and a few Honda pan europeans. There is an unmarked Duke 999 flaoting about as well. The Fife and grampian police also use ducati 999's as well.
This is really unfair as you see them behind you and think hmmmm no-way that guys getting past me, next thing you know is the front of their bikes light up and all hell breaks loose!
hmmm funny line to follow

I was a cop for 16 years and rode motors for four of those. Always gave a brother a break. If the speed was excessive, I'd have him "bite the curb" and explain to him the error of his ways. Only gave one a citation, he had a terrible attitude !
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke .

Sorry to say but here in Warwickshire, UK, local police have been trying out HD police bike!!! Local bad guys laughed their socks off, saying on our roads it would be great, as we have lots of bends!!!! Annoyed locals as they had turned down Truimph Sprints(factory 19 miles away), as they weren't shaft drive!!!

So do I, Soren! If the Bloor Boys were smart, they'd look into this very thing.
Now...a few years back, I had a motor cop who was parked behind a parked car in Manhattan Beach, pull me over doing 65 in a 35 zone. As I passed him, I saw it was far too late to do anything but pull over and wait for him, over the next hill that I had ridden over.
He seemed kind'a shocked as I waved him over to me on the side of the road, as he had actually lost sight of me.
Well...as much as I jokingly tried to get him to just give me a warning, he told me that he had to cite me for going so fast, but thanked me for admitting to my lack of prudence AND my understanding attitude.
Well....he then proceeded to explain to me how to get out of this citation. He told me to postpone taking it to court until the last few days I was alloted to appear at the courthouse for it, and then plead Not Guilty.
The clerk would then set a court date for me to appear and "if" he didn't appear to testify against me for "some" reason, the judge would throw out the case.
Well, guess what?! He DIDN'T show, and the judge DID throw the case out.
Cheers, Dwight (I have a "sneaky suspicion" that he kind'a appreciated my cooperation AND the Triumph Sprint I was riding that day)

Missoula PD has a similar arrangement with the local HD dealer, $1/yr or something similar. I think they have 6-8 bikes on the road. I like the idea of motorcops. Being rural mountain country, our local guys all drive 4WD Chevy's and Fords. I like to park near their motorpool and offer suggestions regarding basic transportation. Our undersheriff rides a mid 70's Norton, he doesn't need any convincing. Every time I see him, we have an obligatory 10-15 minute conversation on proper motorbikes .
Last year the Spokane PD took delivery of ~5 bikes from the Missoula HD dealer. They came through here on the way home and one officer cracked up on some late season gravel in the twisties (uninjured, but I can imagine the ribbing his buddies gave him).
Dwight - Now if that officer had been out in the parking lot drooling over your Triumph when you exited the courtroom a free man, that'd been the capper (or copper?).

City cops ride harleys an they are old.. the local HD shop owner is a total hose bag and charges well over the retail price of everything.. The county EMS uses 2 harleys road kings, the county PD has a few HD's and a few BMW's and a few Kawi's.. The city where I live uses harleys, the county uses bmw's but they have 2 sport bikes they use on the interstate and trust me no one gets away from them..

Remember BMW donates cars and bikes to SCHP. If you ever go to the state fair they have a booth with a 325 patrol car and a bike they show. The trouper I talked to last year said it was part of the tax brake deal that BMW get for having the plant in Anderson. Instead of giving the state only money they give cars and bikes.

I routinely give a thumbs up to the cycle cops who ticket the HOV violators here in Northern VA and they seem to be OK about bikers in general. I've actually pulled over a couple of times for motorcycles pulling over only to find they were police bikes. I'd stop and ask if they were working or broken. Of course both times they gave me a thumbs up and off I'd go. Not impossible that a police bike would break. The police guys pretty much wave back.

Got a long stretch of open road early one morning last summer, (70 mph limit). Nothin' about so I went for it, as I passed the ton a cop pulled alongside on his Pan European and just looked. I eased off thinking "there goes my ticket for the rest of the year". He then shot off at god knows what speed. I suspected that he was trying to entice me to go faster but resisted the temptation. A couple of miles later he was on a flyover with his radar gun out. Some cops are devious all of the time, all cops are devious some of the time.
If you do it today you MIGHT regret it. If you CAN'T do it tomorrow you WILL regret it.

Dude,
You got really lucky to go through radar traps two times and not get pulled over. The last time a radar trap clocked me I was doing 72 in a 55 and yes he flagged me over and I did get a ticket. If that happens again, do like SalMaglie said and go buy a lottery ticket because it’s your lucky day....

wAround here, the cops ride whatever is on sale. If it were me, I'd have some misgivings about chasing someone on the cheapest POS the city could buy.

i live in the north east of the uk and theres a few stretches of road that cops like to hide behind the trees etc, we just get to know where n when its ok to open it up. mind you some times you get a supprise. i got pulled over for doing 80mph in a 60 zone,on a country road, as i sat there waiting for his comments of"having difficulty takeing off?" i was supprised 1stly to find that he was a she! then even more so when she said, "you were going a bit fast there, just as well the roads are empty", i sat n waited for the lecture but all she said was, "keep the speed down" , got on her bike n rode off.i just sat there for a few seconds thinking "was that a dream?", i did pul a lotto ticket on n guess wot...didnt win a thing, guess i must have used up all my luck on the ride out.

Here, in Norwalk, CT, they ride bicycles. NS, One of them pulled over one of our MACK tri-axle dump trucks, yelling at the driver that he was gonna get a ticket for talking on the cell phone. Our trucks all have hands-free speaker phones, but you can't hear them in a f'en dump truck. I mailed in his ticket with a receipt for a headset, and the charge was nollied(sp). On the way home from work today(less than 2 miles),I passed 2 cops, who were both talking on cell phones. Where is the justice?

The motor patrols around here (central Kentucky) ride Harleys. I pulled up behind two the other day that had plate frames that read "Smile, I could be BEHIND you"!! Thought that was humorous and gave them a big smile (hence the name 'Smyley') and a thumbs up as they checked me out in their mirrors. They did a u-turn and came back to the gas station I pulled into and just raved over my shiny red TBA!!!! I must say, it did put their Harleys to shame!!! LOL

I read somewhere that some municipalities are required to buy American made bikes only. I thought it was Florida that had that on their books. I read that it was a cost issue that prompted the story.

Must be the heat over that way! I got stopped in AZ (in a hire car) doing just over 90 in a 75 and the guy just said watch your speed! He said I wouldn't get a fine or appear on any computers - guess I'll find out in Septemebr when I try and get back in the country!

Had one of our VA State boys on a Harley pass me on a ride out Hwy 211 today. He looked over, slowed, looked again, and gave me a big thumbs up! Dad gum I love riding my TBA.

I wasn't sure whether to add my two cents worth or not, but here it is. I am a traffic cop in greater Vancouver and sometimes ride one of our Harleys. The RCMP here in B.C. get the Harley FLX's. One of the bikes I have ridden is a 94 and is a real pig. It handles like a tank which when doing the obstacle courses winds up being lessons in eating pavement. Whether I'm on two or four wheels I look out for the moron cagers who seem don't see/care about bikes. Speeding isn't a big issue for me but those crotch rocket newbies (you know the ones who wear sandals, cut offs and short sleeve shirts) seem to ****** off many people I talk to and really give the rest of us a bad name. When I'm on the company bike I'll wave and talk to other bikers that I meet, no problem. Even though we ride Harleys kids seem to love the bikes my partner and I use these as an opportunity to promote safe motorcycling (can't start too young). Today I had an older guy stop and say how sorry he was that I was riding a Harley. When I told him that in 30 minutes I'd be on my Triumph he gave me a huge smile, shook my hand and said that he used to ride Triumphs back in the 60's. Ride safe brothers and sisters.

I imagine "accessibility" is a big part of motorpatrol units. People are more likely to start up conversations, same as bicycle patrols or plain old walking. Same as when I'm on the Triumph versus in the pickup. I have yet to have anyone walk up to my 2000 GMC extra cab at the gas pumps and say "I used to have one of those, or "When did they start making those again?", or "What year is that?". I bet talking to kids is a high point of the day. JH
