My tachometer decided to stick this wkend. Initially it stuck at 5000 RPM, but now it is stuck at 6500. It revs up to 9000 or so, and then comes back to rest at 6500.
I think this is probably more cosmetic than anything.
Any of you guys think this could be indicative of a larger looming problem?
Suggestions for repair or replacement? It is the Triumph accessory tach. If I need to replace it, I'd much prefer something that fits in that same hole.

Looming problem for the tachometer yes, not the bike. Its stuck. There may be a little worm gear in there that is bad.

Wow, a new one is a lot of money!

They can do that. Especially the first year EFI here. At least there have been a few mentions over on T-rat about it.
Mine (09 America) would do it very intermittently at first. Found that just turning the key on and cycling the thumb kill switch a few times would take it back to zero. That trick no longer seems to work for me. I watched my tach sweep past 9,500 RPM when I was getting on the interstate last week and got a chuckle!

no larger, looming problems to worry about. This is fairly common unfortunately. The Drag Specialties tach is the same size, works better, but has to be manually wired. Wiring info can be found in the Vault

I found the T-rat post, and seems to work, and the problem keeps coming back, so will have to see about the Drag Specialties unit. Thanks fellows.

As already been stated, cycling the key off and on several times worked for me with my 03 America. Been doing that for years at least a couple of times a summer.
