Heading out east next Monday. Have a date to be at Mamouth Caves in Central Kentucky on Wednesday. If'n time and money allows, might be able to swing a quick trip to the coast after that. Some questions; can a ride to the coast from Central Kentucky be reasonably done in a couple of days, given that I ride ten hour days pretty easily? If that isn't a good idea, do youse have any ideas about what to see in the Kentucky/Tennessee area? (Blue Ridge Parkway/The Dragon/historical/ etc.)

Yota knows Kentucky quite well. Sure he will have advise.
From Mammoth Caves to Wheels Through Time is like 5 hours. Two days is plenty of time to dip you toes in the ocean and be comfortable doing it. I would head towards Raleigh NC then to the coast.
There are so many cool places in Kentucky. National Corvette Museum. Bourbon tours, Civil War sites.
The east coast is a lot and you can get lost there.
Oh ya take a compass. They have round roads there. Round Mountains, Round rivers, Round creeks.
Road Rash Heals. Freckles Grow Back. Ride

Easy peasey, you can make it in 15 hours or less. Two days will give you plenty of time to slow down and enjoy the trip. Consider rolling toward Bristol, TN so you can incorporate some of that truly fine US 421 in your journey, just as much twisty turny delight with none of the parade speed crowd at Deals Gap.

If you have time ride south to Panama City from Ky. Then follow the pan handle along my the Gulf Coadt then cut across to the Atlantic. I did it last Sept from the Ky rally. Great sites and seafood.

Colonial Williamsburg is cool, Gettysburg, Yorktown, Jamestown, Ft Griswald and Fort Trumble Bennedict Arnold fought there, found those by accident going to tour the USS Nautalus (nuke sub) got lost and asked another biker how to get there and he says he knows a better place to follow him so we did. Trumble was closed but a worker saw us and gave us a private tour! Trumble is restored Griswald is not. Battleship Cove etc... tons to see on the East coast. We are older and more mature on the east coast, I hope California grows up and gats in touch with reality some day.

Hey Rich, I suppose it depends on how many days you would like to set aside to explore the area. I could show you a couple of great rides in East Tennessee, West Carolina, North Georgia. We could even dip into Kentucky and hunt The Yota

Rich, some might consider 10 hours a day a bit harsh, that said, 'time' is not the issue this time of year. Riding this time of year is "Hotter than a jug full of red ants." Beware. It'll kick ya in the butt and make you wish for winter. http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/motorcycle/Cooling-Vest (Gotta love Festus... )

C'mon now Moe, as a fellow long distance rider I KNOW you aren't cautioning me against racking up the miles! And heat don't bother me a single widget! But I WILL have to watch out for my niece. I want her to remember the trip as pleasurable, not a chore. I'll make it clear to her that she has to speak up about her comfort level. She's been pretty good, though. A real trooper. Finally, the extended forecast I get is for the temps to be in the middle 70s next week. Perfect riding weather!

lol yeah I was expressing concern for your niece. And with the temps forecast for the mid 70s...Dang the both of you are going to have a ride to remember!!!
Back in 2010 when in Montana, I had a similar desire to not only see the Pacific but to touch both Washington and Oregon. Well given that I had a Rally in NY to attend, I kinda abandoned those thoughts. Instead I found myself, for the first time in my life, riding in snow.
Had just bought some overpriced AAA batteries in Cooke City then proceeded to roll through Bear Tooth Pass headed to NY via Red Lodge, looking to snap tons of photos as I rode through the pass. I stopped to marvel at the hint of snow on the Cooke City side of the pass snapped some pictures then mounted and rode as I realized that the snow was heading my way and I should skedaddle right quick through the Pass. I was scared to death as the snow drifts eventually covered the entire road surface the higher up I rode and at the top the winds were 30mph and the road was iced over with what I call cypress roots emerging from the surface, er I digress. Point? You might consider slabbing it to the beach then should time allow hitting some of rural roads as, either way, you'll be giving up a WORLD of outstanding roads to make it to the Atlantic, and yet, even then, your ride will be remarkable.
To quote newt, "Enjoy !!!!!!!!"

Yeah, I gotta get ahold of Mike. As far as the "slab", I HATE the slab and I totally agree as to what I would miss taking the long way. But, as usual, time is a consideration. I'm gonna leave it up to my niece. If she is ok with a slab ride just to spend some time at the ocean, that's what we'll do. If not, we'll just spend some time cruising around in a big circle and head back home, taking a different route back. I figure I can have as much as 6 days total before I run out of time and money. (And my wife's patience )
