Has anyone swapped the America bars for the Speedmaster's?

I have the same question. Seems to me I remember some discussion about going the other way around BA bars on a speedie.....I'm thinking I would like to try a straighter, more drag bar like handlebars.....Let me know what you find out. Ride safe!

Bonnybeemer has my speedy bars on his america. He has pics in his album. He said the cables were a little long now, but not terribly so.

Are the cables long enough to put America bars on a Speedy?
With apropriate risers. How long are America risers?

I think speedy cables are shorter than america cables, so I doubt it, even with the shorter risers. Maybe if you re-route the throttle to the right of the frame...

I've been contemplating the same...drag bars with 4" risers or something of the sort. I'll hafta sit on a SM this weekend while in PA and see if I like 'em.

I have put 6-inch straight Kuryakyn risers with flat bars on my America, have a look at my gallery. They are super comfortable especially for my 6'3" frame. The cables are a little bit long visually, but no problems with operation.

TBA, Stainless extractors / drag pipes, 65mm over forward controls, Thruxton needles, 904cc, head ported, lowered 1-inch, Console removed, relocated battery box, Australia.

Has anyone tried to go the other way (hear me out before you judge) putting America bars on a Speedy? Someone must have, You people will do anything here (don't judge).

Thats it Doghair... consider yourself judged!

You would need longer cables to go from speedy bars and risers to the America bars and risers. It would probably give you a more relaxed riding position.

Yes America cables are longer than Speedys, and the only reason is the bar/riser combo.

Hey Frank,

I might be off base reading too far into your comment, but here goes...Are those Barons one piece risers and bars? From the Barons I've seen on aftermarket sites for metric bikes, they have a 4" center-to-center distance between risers, so Harley bars are the way to go. Plenty of options there. If they are one piece risers and bars, you should be able to find something similar in a Harley aftermarket setup. I believe a lot of Harleys have 3 1/2" center-to-center between the risers like our bikes(double check both before buying though). You would have to drill for the 1/2" bolts though that mount most aftermarket risers and bar combo.

I changed bars on my Speedy and used some HD bars I liked (narrower than the America's).

I needed to change the cables to the America's as the Speedy's were too short.
I would think the America's bars, being wider, would enhance this problem.

I hope this helps a little.

I know two people who switched their Speedmaster bars for the America bars. One of the guys kept his original Speedmaster risers on and the other guy went with the America risers. Both had to switch their cables because the Speedmaster cables were too short.

Not sure the exact size, but when I read your post above I took a tape measure to my Speedmaster risers for a rough sizing and got 3 1/2" from center-to-center. Didn't take off the top clamps and handlebar for more accuracy though, but if it isn't 3 1/2" it's real close. That's why I said to double check.

Try Barnett for the cables and the brake lines. They'll custom make any length cable, and they carry Spiegler and Goodridge brake lines.

Yesterday, I mounted the SM bars on my '03 BA. I used the tall, polished, round risers from Brent. They are a little pricey, but they sure look great with the speedy bars. Also put on the chrome oval mirrors from BC(these look great as well). I took it for a 50 mile blast, and I love the feel of this setup. Sorry, no pics yet. I forgot to bring my digital camera with me to my Mom's, where I keep my bike. Anyway, I don't know how to post pics, but am going to try to learn. Charlie
