Finally bought myself another wax cotton jacket...( think Belstaff, Barbour...) after not having one these last 20 years.
Determined not to pay fashion money not have a fashion item and eventually chose one by Vintage Speedwear in UK.
Went to see it at a localish Ural dealer (yep, we have a very few of these over here) and paid £139 for one.
Verdict? Thinner material than of old but seemingly well put together.....will no doubt be tested in rain soon enough( I live in UK after all).
Anybody else use such anachronistic things? Personally I think they suit the Triumph quite well.

Is that the material all the Aussie long coats marketed here are made of?

You may need financing to do business with these guys, but they sell waxed coats. Filson I used to have one of their horseback Aussie styled ones, but it must have shrank (shrunk?) after 20 years, so I gave it away.

I bought one about 10 years ago.I used it a couple of times on my VLX in Thailand. It worked pretty well in the torrential rain.It must have shrunk too cause it doesn't fit anymore. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Supposedly a bloke on a Harley got killed here. The long coat blew open and caught in the belt drive and he crashed. You've got to make sure the straps on the coat that go around the calf are secure.I used to knot mine.

I've never thought the long stockman's coat a very practical piece of kit for a motorcycle....the jacket I have is modelled on the 1953 Barbour international....and Belstaff Trialmaster jackets.....it's s good deal shorter, fastens secured at the neck and wrists and has a belt.

It actually worked quite well.Split in the back for horse riding. It kept me dry without rain pants."waterproof boots" weren't though.
I've since got a pair of overpants made from the same stuff they work well keeping the wind out for the winter here.
After I read your post I googled "wax cotton jackets and saw one called the "Steve McQueen looked ok.I know the Belstaff/Barbour are practical

I have a decent quality stockman's coat too...where it is lacking is that for example the sleeves don't fully close up so rain gets up them at speed....and the neck fastening ditto.
They're good items...but designed for horse riding rather than motorcycles.

Filson still carries a weather jacket, they used to be called Tin Coats, favored by Loggers here in the PNW. Their Tin Pants were in demand by them as well, but OSHA made a Reg. that loggers must now wear Kevlar, so the pants lost popularity. TIN = Oil/Wax/Cotton in Oldspeak. THe jackets button down tight and make a suitable riding coat, but you might not fit in on the yearly Distinguished Gentlemen s ride.

I'd agree a coat designed specifically for motorcycles such as Belstaff would be better than the "Dri as a bone" Horse riding coats.

I own a Polo wax cotton made by Barbour. Barbour's history is actually based in motorcycling and morphed into "game keeper" and paddock jackets.

I also own a Filson waxed hunting field coat.

There is a difference between Barbour and Filson products. Barbour's are a very thin cotton poplin boiled in wax, where as Filson's tend to be a heavier cotton duck boiled in wax, almost like a Carhart being waxed.

I try to never wax cotton. I could never get it to shine.
