Went out to check pressures today....woops, f****n big screw in the back tyre. Oh well, best I find it now rather than next week when I'm off to Devon in it. Getting it off and repaired was simple but I admit I wrestled over long putting the spindle back...seemed to have a life of its own and I'd have appreciated someone to hold/ wiggle the wheel...but done eventually and a perfect excuse to repair to my local pub... from where I send this missive.

Get yourself some circlip pliers and remove the righthand wheel adjustment bracket before you put wheel back on. Get the the left hand side fittings all aligned, put the spindle through the frame and the wheel and into the spacer, then slip the wheel adjuster back into place. It might only be a couple of mm's but it is amazing how much difference that makes (as the actress said to the bishop!!)

Interesting..... you're probably right.....it was the adjuster which made it a pain...next time I'll do that.

Interesting...today I did 60 miles on my Switchback then got off and rode the TBA...what a relief....the Harley was of course more powerful but I wondered how I ever I thought the HD was fun....I did over 12000 miles on it last year so something must have worked for me but now I just find it a plain pain to be endured rather than enjoyed. Strange...guess it's me that's changed rather than it. I think it's a sort return to my biking roots sort of thing. A nimble flickable machine which can still cover the miles and leave me smiling at the end of the day. So, I may have a buyer for the Harley...nice guy so I'm happy to sell it to him if his bike sells in time... But it all leaves me recalling the words of Anais Nin... " We do not see life as it is, but as we are."

Wow, 12K miles in one year, in England. That's a lot of riding. Is it true you have a 55MPH limit in your country? Or Kliks or what ever is the unit of measure there.

I have a brand new R3T in the garage and am still in the honey moon stage with it, but the America is right beside it and I have still put more miles on her so far.
On the America I feel as if we are one. On the Rocket it feels like a partnership.
I bought the Rocket for long haul touring with my wife and we will put a lot of miles on it I am sure, but I promise you the America will get plenty of road time.
Plus since the America and Speedmaster are no longer being produced the Rocket will mean the America will be around many more years.

No We always thought that was the case in the US.
In fact, I don't think any of our speed restrictions are set at 55mph. 30 (sometimes 20) in built up areas then 40, 50, 60 depending on the type of road. 70mph on motorway (thats a freeway / interstate to you). Most people consider the speed limit as more of a 'suggested' speed. I've found in all the many thousands of miles I've driven in the US that generally people stick to the speed limits. If you try driving to the speed limit in the UK, you will have a queue of people tailgating you. We should copy your 'fines doubled in road works' idea too. Most people see a road works signs and think "40mph in road works? Naahhh". Our speed limit and speedometers are in mph (though we have km/h on there too), some of our road signs refer to yards and, although many people don't know this, the numbers on the small blue signs at the side of the motorway are set at kilometres from the start of that motorway. See, dead easy ...

Yes, I usually ride about 18 k miles a year....the other 6k is on my TBA LT which I bought last November.I guess I'm what might be called an ' enthusiast ' or just plain nuts about bikes. UK speed limit is 70 mph on open roads....few folks stick to it....unless there's a police car nearby. My prospective buyer for the Harley has a Rocket three tourer to sell with 23 k on it....was tempted but not a good idea with my various old bones and stuff.

Don't know where in the US you were but here the normal speed is at least 10mph over the limit and in many cases (like me) more than that.

True. Try going the speed limit on the interstates in most big cities and you will get run over. My son and I rode to Denver from Tulsa last June and the speed limit on I -70 through KS was 75 mph. We were doing about 80 and people were passing us like we were standing still. Bumped it up to 85-90 and we were still being passed. To me interstates suck when you're on a bike. Most are packed. We took uS 60 through Ok panhandle coming back and would go for miles w/o seeing another vehicle. Much less stressful.

Most recently the last couple of trips when I was at Fast Eddy's for a couple of weeks in 2015 (WI, MN and into Canada then MI) and in then again in 2016 across 11-12 southern states over two weeks. The only time I noticed any speeding was several years ago in AZ and that was me. And yes, I got pulled over by the old Bill

So then, your roadway signs are like the old money system. 1 pound = 20 shillings, 1 shilling = 16 pence, 1 penny = 4 farthings.

Yep Paul, I feel the same way. Although, in most cases, and at least how I feel about it, it's because they're usually long, straight and boring affairs, and thus don't allow one to utilize the very thing that differentiates riding a motorcycle and which makes it more fun than driving a car.
This of course would be leaning them into turns.
(...yep, gimme a great twisty road over a freakin' Interstate any ol' day of the week, and unless it's an absolute necessity for me to get to wherever the hell I'm going in the shortest amount of time possible)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Perhaps I'm a minority here but I don't mind them too much. For me, getting out of the London area is best done on motorways.....you can get out fast then concentrate on the better roads...next Friday I go to Devon with a couple of TBA friends.....out along the M 25( busiest road in Europe) then the M3 then hit the A303.....where it gets interesting...ride past Stonehenge... down to two lanes mostly and stunning views and history... including a ride by Cadbury Castle- best candidate for Camelot.... this ride used to be much more of a pain when,in the seventies, I had to work my way through South London. So motorways allow me to get to good places with less stress.
