Gents, I just did this mod. When I hit the starter I get a grinding noise, no start. When doing this mod I ended up having to remove the centrifugal breather and driven gear (page 5.17 in the Triumph shop manual) to get the idler gear out. Before I tear this back down do you guys have any idea what to look for, that I screwed up? Does the starter drive gear go back in a particular way? Safe Start

depends what gear you mean, the sprag cluth only works one direction, you also have to be sure to put the spring washers back where they belong. Mack sure the idler gear pin is in place too.

Ok gent's I got it sorted out. Somehow when I was putting the cover back on the rod slid out a bit and the idler gear rotated. Funny thing the "wavy" washer was still on the rod. haha. Got it back together and all is good it appears.

Glad to hear that this was an easy fix. When I did mine it seemed pretty straight forward. I was also overly cautious and triple checked everything.

2006 865 Neon Blue/Jet Black Speedmaster,790cams, TTP Stage 2 Firestarter, Epco Exhaust with 10.25" Samson Vrod baffles, UNI pods with 40 pilots, 150 mains,Thruxton needles, 3 turns out.
