So it would probably be a good idea to get the chrome stripped before ceramic coating then?

I would let the powdercoaters make that call, I'm sure they know what kind of surface they need to work with.

I just had some Jet Hot coated and they only barely removed all the old chrome, they told me as long as the surface is roughed up, the coating will stick. We will see, as I stashed the guarantee papers where I can find them if necessary.

I have a set of Epco/Stainless ride pipes that are in really good shape other than being very discolored. Instead of polishing them I opted to take them to a company called Aesthetic Finishers in Piqua, Ohio that does what they call armor coating. I am getting the pipes armor coated in near chrome. I asked the guy there about the headers and he said that if they were his that he would have the chrome stripped first. he also said that his company does all of the black ceramic/armor coating for SuperTrapp exhausts.

Dunno, it's on a nano/molecular level here, them chromium molecules are pretty well imbedded into the surface of the header steel, I have never seen any parts "peel" off. Maybe the Aestheties are used to seeing big chunks of chromium peeling off stuff. I understand that they would need a roughed up surface for which to adhere their "near Chrome" to. Manganese, molybdenum and vanadium are near chrome. The periodic table don't lie.
