Howdy gents, I just wanted to tell the story of my current situation. Back at the end of October a car turned in front of me and the only way that I could avoid t-boning it was to lay my motorcycle down. My bike was not damaged too bad just a lot of scrapes on the right hand side and I was able to ride it home. Fortunately I was not injured as I was only going about 25 mph. The other driver was faulted and his insurance company reimbursed mine. Now the NADA value of my beloved 2003 Speedmaster was only $2160, so the bike was totaled out. Fortunately I have an additional accessory coverage on my insurance that gives me full retail value for my accessories. Luckily I bought most of my accessories used out of the classifieds and on Ebay for a fraction of their retail value. All told I got nearly $5k for the bike. They gave me the option to buy the bike back at a salvage value of $333, so I did. I figured the Freak kit on there was almost $300 and the Bad G Customs saddlebags cost me $359 and weren't damaged so it was cheaper to buy the bike back then to replace just those 2 items alone, and that doesn't include a bunch of other accessories that I have on there that I are in perfectly good, useable condition. Also, I got the bike inspected, got a salvage rebuilt title, and it is fine to ride. So that brings me to now. I am on my way to pick up a 2006 neon blue Speedmaster. I am replacing the 03 with this, and am most likely going to keep it for parts.

OK you can not leave us hanging. How much was the 2006 Speedy? You gave the dollars on everything else.
Other than that sounds like a plan.
Was not 2003 the first year for the Speedy? Strip her down and ride her.

Oh, I'm getting the 2006 Speedy for $3100. Clean title, comes with windshield, sissy bar and rack, driving lights and TORs. 6900 miles, looks damn near brand new. Too good to pass up. My 03 Speedy has over 60,000 miles on it and was looking rough around the edges before the accident. My insurance company will only let me carry liability on it because I have not repaired any of the damage and after thinking it over all winter I decided it wasn't worth it.

It was owned by a guy in his 60s who bought it new and just didn't ride it much. He was asking a bit more but after I told him my story he wanted someone to buy the bike that knows them and is going to ride it.

With the discontinuation of the model line you might be smart to stockpile all of those undamaged bits.

My biggest problem with keeping the salvage rebuilt titled 03 is storing it. Right now I only have a one car garage that already has my 01 Bonneville in it, and now the 06 Speedy that I just picked up. So, as of right now there are 3 motorcycles in my one car garage and the wife is giving me crap about it, not to mention the fact that I can barely move in there. I'm hoping that I can fit the 03 into the shed out back.

You'll be doing some wrenching getting your salvage bike broken down into parts so it can be stored. And cataloging the bits so you know what you have in the future.

That is part of the plan. I have a post in general tech about if it's a good idea to use the 790 cams as they are coming out of a bike that has 60,000 miles on it.

My sincere apologies, but the carbs would be one of the items that I would be wanting to keep and stash away.
