So I rode the Stelvio today, it's an adventurer style bike like the Tiger. 1200cc with 108hp and 83ftlbs of torque. It's very tall, I could barely stand flat footed, but the seat is adjustable for a slightly shorter rider. I would drop the seat just to have a bit more stability at stops. Hydraulic clutch is super smooth, shaft drive with a single side swingarm rolls tubeless spoke wheels. It has an amazing 8.5 gallon fuel tank! I couldn't believe that! Comes with engine crash bars, fog lights, hard bags, skid plate, heated grips and a 12v power port next to the digital display. Throttle by wire is responsive, gears shift easily. I jumped on the highway and hit triple digits before I knew it. The windshield is adjustable and I would have slid it up a little to prevent buffeting. The exhaust has a nice mellow tone but could be a bit louder. Still nowhere near as quiet as a stock Triumph! I think these run about 16grand, so a bit more than the 800 Tiger but in line with the Explorer for what you get in a smaller package. Well blanced bike, I had a fun time on it and when it's not in the mid 30's for temp I'm going to go back and ride it again.

A friend of mine has one. He's put on more than 8,000 miles in something like 5-6 months on it. He will admit to being 'shorter in the leg' and he loves it. He had a new Tiger before this and the materials and build quality on the Stelvio are so much better than the Tiger.

Great bike that is overlooked by most people. Of course here in the US dealer network is very thin. However from everything I read about the new Guzzi they are easy to self maintain.

I'm not allowed any more Moto Guzzi's ...my wife says she can't stand to see a grown man cry and throw spanners around. Seriously, beware...lots of these have chocolate cam followers. Guzzi walk away from warranty claims. I'm a big guzzi fan..had loads..will have them again...but not one of these....

Like I said, it's priced in the 16's but the Tiger XCA is listed at 15,500 so it's comparable. This one is missing the hard bags because they haven't gotten them in yet, it only had 3 miles on it when I took it out. Supposedly Guzzi is making a whole new engine soon with hemispherical pistons, so by the time I'm ready to pull the trigger, maybe the new motor will be out. I was also told that this is the last year for the Stelvio, so maybe they are not gong to do the adventure line at all anymore

Adventure bikes are not exactly made to be beautiful...
Exactly, Paul. The concept taking much more the "form follows function" route than some idea about "classically styled" machines.
And Dave...what I've thought about the Stelvio since their introduction is that it would seem to make more sense for a dual purpose bike, one with the intent of SOME off-road use, to sport that classic Guzzi V-twin layout than it would what is still generally considered the benchmark for such bikes, the flat-twin BMW GS series...and with the Beamer's cylinders sticking out there farther and lower down for who knows what to hit while riding out in the bush.
(...however, this of course is just my perception, as I have yet to talk to a GS owner who isn't thrilled with his bike)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

And some additional comment on Guzzis. I have a wing of my family that likes them, an Uncle and his boys. One of the boys just bought a "sport" Guzzi, don't remember the model. Nice lookin bike, a 500 cc I think. Generally speaking, the engines are bullit proof and reliable. Most things are pretty easy to work on, kind of like mechanical stuff from the 70s. The drivetrain is a little problematical, and the electrics can be shaky. Poorest quality is reserved for the controls and switches, reminicant of Lucas.

That's a cool looking bike Mikey. Did she finally forgive you though for being locked up all winter?
