It's been a long time since my last post let alone my last visit to the forum. That's how good my 2003 America has been to me. I've recently moved and had many items stored all over. The bonneville ,I gave to my son. I wasn't able to use it where I was so he kept it alive. When I did go to retrieve it to bring it to its new home, it wouldn't start. It ran fine all summer. Between the 2 of us we found that the rubber vacume hose to the carb on the side opposite the kickstand was cracked. A little duct tape and some silicone got me home. I'm not inclined to go digging into the bike anymore as I have in the past to seek and replace, so my question for my fellow triumph fans is, besides this hose, what other rubber will I need to replace? General maintenance has been maintained, oil, chain, Cush bearings and so on but it looks like the rubber hoses are toast. Any input on what to look for on a bike that's 14 years old but runs great is appreciated.

Are you referring to what we call Squirrel Condoms? The internal vacuum diaphragms atop the carbs can crack and leak, the fork seals will eventually leak, spark plug wires can go due to heat cycles and age, the o-ring in the fuel petcock as well as the fuel line itself. Wheel bearings and brake calipers eventually will fail. Electrical connects/plugs can corrode. And if you haven't already, buy/install the starter shaft hole reinforcement kit from pieman, if that goes, it's a catastrophic failure and a major, if even possible fix, without a new lower engine casting... web page

Sounds to me like the AI is still in place and that hose cracked. Check the vacuum caps and intake rubbers. Spray a little carb clean around them and iof the idle changes you have a leak.
