Each Dec I and some friends head off to Belgium to a winter rally there. Plan was to take my Switchback but a) it developed the usual and hard to cure vibration problem. Meantime I've bought an immaculate TBA LT....so changed my ferry booking to take this. Yesterday I finally solved the switchback problems...... What a dilemma Which do I now take? The answer on this forum is bound to be ' take the Triumph.' BUT It's awfully muddy over there this time of year....Flanders an all that....and I'm Loth to dirty my shiny new machine. And I don't care so much about the Harley...it can get dirty. But I much prefer to ride the TBA. Do you feel my pain? Or just think ' get a life, kid' Al

Well Al if it were I, I would use the Harley.Keep the Triumph for better weather, and in pristine condition.Of course in the UK waiting for better weather could take "Awhile ".You're going to sell the Harley soon aren't you?You shouldn't devalue it unless it breaks again. You can clean it with a pressure spray? and get a life Just kidding. It sounds like you'd sort of planned this way yourself.Of course you'd need to change the ferry booking again to which the ferry people with typical British aplomb would probably say "What's the plonker want now?"

I'm slowly getting to that way of thinking myself, Findlay....and as for dirt washing off.....it does but sometimes it takes chrome with it..... I once took a Softail custom on this trip...skinny front mudguard and bobbed rear one.. By the time we hit the docks on the way back no one could tell what colour it ( or I) was....just mud everywhere....I was still cleaning it out the cylinder fins come the summer.

Its why I have two TBAs, one for polishing and tinkering, one to ride. One gets cleaned with a toothbrush, one with a power washer.

Funnily enough that's my plan for when I sell the switchback...one to ride and play with, one to polish and ride .

LOL have you seen the chrome on my bike. I find the time I spend in the garage cleaning as therapeutic. Ride what you want. (it does help that my garage is heated)

The decision is made...I'm taking the TBA. Been out and checked it over and covered it in ACF50 The Harley's a fine bike but I just want to take the Triumph. Not amenable to logic, is it? Who cares?

Logic has never had anything to do with love and passion.

As you say logic doesn't enter into it. Why ride a bike anyway? It's "feeling" as we know. If we were into logic we'd take camper vans on our travels I suppose.
