Have a new MOSFET R/R coming and am going to fit using the straight to battery method. Have looked at all the old threads and am good to go except not sure where to mount it. Did you guys that have done it just use the original mount or relocate to somewhere else?

I utilised the original bracket. You may have to get mildly creative as the original bracket s holes may not line up perfectly. The easiest solution is to make a transition piece from flat stock that bolts to the original bracket as well as the rectifier. It ain't rocket science. Anyway, that's how I handled it.

I had done the short wire direct to the battery with my OEM reg/rec. Connected the wiring to the reg/rec side of the plug as to not make a permanent change to the actual wiring loom. Just felt I might be replacing the thing in the future as it was working, just not good enough in my mind. I later replaced with one of the Hot Shot MOSFET reg/rec units. After making some measurements and checking again after several days I felt no need to repeat the wiring mod for the new unit. The original location was fine with me.

Well the new SHINDENGEN MOSFET FH020AA REGULATOR/RECTIFIER KIT arrived and is now fitted. Pretty straight forward. Wasn't plug 'n' Play had to fit connectors but easy enough. Output with the old R/R Off ------- 12.88v Idle ------ 12.90v 3500rpm - 13.27v New R/R Off ------- 12.88v Idle ------ 13.44v 3500rpm - 14.47v Good result. Very happy. Here's a link to thr R/R I got. http://www.ebay.com/itm/380704480069?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Pardon my ignorance, again, but where is the original equipment regulator/rectifier?

under the bike behind the motor, look near the swing arm hinge.
if you bike has the emissions kit on it, the evap canister may block your view of the RR
