Ok. So like the last couple times I went to start the bike and go for a ride I do like I always do.... Make sure it's in neutral (green light on dash is on) pull in the clutch, hit the starter button, and she fires right up and stays running. Well, the last couple of times, including this morning, it would fire right up... then the green neutral light would start to flicker and the engine would cut in and out with the flicker like the ignition was cutting on and off. I'd mess with the shifter and make sure the light would stay on and try again and it usually would work. Well, this morning it took like three or four tries before the light would finally stabilize and the bike wouldn't stall. Then.... tonight at 8pm when I went to come home from work it just wouldn't even start at all. If I held the shifter with my foot to keep the light on and hit the button to start it, it would only emit a repeated click like the battery was dead. When I wriggle the shifter the green light will flicker with the wriggling, and if I just let loose of the shifter the green neutral light would go out on the dash even though the bike was indeed in neutral and you don't even get the clicking. I'm absolutely worthless when it comes to electrical on bikes or cars. What do you guys think it is? Thanks for any and all helpful replies.

P.S. If any of you want a nice looking 2012 America with a slight electrical issue please feel free to steel the bike while it sits dead in the water at our local Lowe's parking lot.

Mike

Sounds like a bad neutral safety switch to me. Try to bypass it and see what happens.

Went back today after doing some web research, and found that if the other two safety switches are working correctly (clutch lever, side stand) that all you have to do to override the sump-mounted plunger neutral switch is to make sure the side stand is up when you go to start it. I wasn't doing that last night, I was sitting on the bike with the side stand down. Today I went back, made sure it was in neutral, pulled in the clutch, and this time put the side stand up and... she popped right off. The neutral light lit up also. Looks like 26 bucks for the neutral switch and a buck for the crush gasket from bikebandit. Not too bad.

Take care,

Mike
