http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/945621-overpriced-triumph/Just a snippet from a Thai ex-pat forum. Triumph over there were crazy import/luxury taxed prices but now the Bonneville range [made there] has the QC done there and prices have gone down dramatically[although still higher than Australia].Unfortunately the Speedmaster/America which would be perfect for Thailand wasn't included in the deal so they are still with taxes nearly double Australian price.

Cry babies... the new Street Twin is $11,300 (USD) in Thailand... it is $17,000 (USD) in Taiwan....
How's that for stupid add-on taxes?

Yet people when scream when the USA wants to put tarrifs on import products. What a double standard.

Well yeah I scream! I don't want to pay a tariff! More money to the politicians to waste? No thanks, especially if it's coming out of MY pocket! What's funny is that the ones, like my brother the labor union president, who scream the loudest happily buy stuff from overseas because it's cheaper or they think the quality is better.

Most of my Union friends are smart enough to understand that a service economy does not create wealth, only manufacturing builds real wealth. We are sending the wealth our Grandfathers created over seas, never to come back.

I used to think that as well. Until I considered what it is that manufactured goods do. They provide a service. A car provides transportation, a fridge keeps my food fresh, my radio music and news. A service company, like UPS moves products, the cell company provides phone service, etc. The difference is that the services provided by things I own add to my net worth and services provided by companies do not. They all contribute to my well being.

I agree.
But stuff is MUCH cheaper made in China,Mexico,Thailand, etc. with a workforce kowtowing to the hierarchy along with poverty line wages and conditions. I guess this is "cone" materiel so I'll refrain from further comment. Please remove this post if you think it's best.
