I always thought that was lame. Back when Evel was going to do it and that latest one. Who couldn't make it in a rocket with a parachute? I was a big Evel fan as a kid, had the toys and jumpped my bike over Tonka trucks but that wasn't a jump it was a launch. Robbie did actually jump a bike over part of a canyon but again doesn't stand up to his fathers stuff. He used a dirt bike with the suspension for it where as Evel used Triumph and HD street bikes.
I learned all I need to know about life by killing smart people and eating their brains.

The word going around at the time was that Evel Chickened out and pull the shut off switch.I read an "easyriders" piece at the time by someone who was there but we'll never know now.

St. Lawrence River Jump. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_Carter_(stuntman) there was a rocket up the backend of the car but didnt make it. Look on one of the maps programs to see how far it is to the other side. Dumn I remember the launch ramp it remained for a few years after that, it was a whole lot of earth and rocks etc. that had to be removed and sponsors had gone south, literally.

I thinks it's pretty irrefutable that Evel wasn't a chickenshit. Just the fact that he got back on a bike after Caesars Palace kind of proves that

I agree it sounded pretty lame to me when I read it but who will ever really know?By that time he was all busted up and the Snake river thing was supposed to be his last big score before retirement.

Evel was a badass for sure, just the whole snake river thing was always a bit lame to me, he would have done better to retire on a last bike jump not try to ride a rocket.

I've always been under the impression that the acceleration was so intense and that it jerked him so hard that he accidentally bumped the lever for the Shute ??

I agree Ian.The Rocket thing was a little bit of a poor finale for a wild man with such a great record.Maybe he blacked out as he said or maybe he was thinking"there's a sucker born every second" .Only Evel knows the real truth of what happened, and he's not telling  
He certainly was one of a kind.
I remember seeing a poster with him doing a wheelie on a Sportster and it said something like.
