Hi. I'm thinking of switching out my TORS on my 2010 America back to the stock pipes (trying to save what little is left of my hearing). Bought the bike with the TORS on it. My question is, do I need to take it to the dealer and get it remapped, or, will it be okay without?

Chances are good you will be fine. Some guys have the Tor tune installed with stock pipes. I did this on a Thunderbird, no issues. What year is the bike ?

It's a 2010, just turned 16,000 miles. I'm hoping to get out of a remap since the dealer's about 250 miles round trip!

Yeah man, just do it. It want grenade on you. Worst thing you might get some lovely additional exhaust popping. Just be sure to seal the exhaust connections, let it sit overnight. Ride and enjoy,  You can do a retune yourself if necessary. Tuneecu.com is free software. all ya need to purchase is a $20 cable to connect. Lot's of info here and on the web

As stated above, you should not have any problem running stock mufflers and the TOR tune.
Base tune with the restrictive stock mufflers = slight lean running condition
TOR tune with freer flowing TOR mufflers = similarly slight lean running condition
TOR tune and stock mufflers will likely leave you a bit on the rich side but not excessively so.

You will run rich, not good for the rings, cyl. wall, and piston not to mention the extra carbon build up you will eventually get. The bike should run OK but if it was my bike I would get the right map. If I was a mechanic....oh, wait, I am a mechanic.

Open up TuneECU and read all the info. Can be a bit overwhelming but the maps work. Make sure you purchase and use the recommended cable. Triumph Twin Power sells it also.
I've used the program to tune my Rocket. I eliminated the restriction in the first 3 gears with it. Increased the fueling by 5% to reduce popping on deceleration with the help of a few map gurus. It will also let you increase rev limit, diagnose codes, compare maps etc etc. Follow the instructions though.

wouldn't earplugs be an easier fix? its not the pipes its wind noise making you go deaf http://www.hearingtestlabs.com/motorcycle.htm

+1 I run straight pipes and only wear ear plugs if going on a long highway ride. The pipes don't effect my hearing but after a few miles on the slab I can barely hear when I stop if I am not using ear plugs.

i wish i had taken better care of my ears years ago. i have the worst hearing out of everyone @ the plant

Depressing but true. I'm pretty sure my TORS are a problem too since I get off the bike after a half hour or so and my tinnitus is a lot louder. Took an hour ride tonight - 3/4 Shoei helmet and ear plugs - usually wear both, 3 hours later the tinnitus is still pretty loud...
I think both loud pipes and wind noise ain't good for hearing.
Sux 'cause I like the sound of those noise makers

Lost mine working on running Blast Furnaces in that Garden Spot of Indiana. 1N Broadway, Gary, In. Even with plugs and earmuffs you get bone conduction. Mafi Malum.

I looked at it, but, I've got a MacBook and looks like it's an android based program? Thanks for the info!

Got the stockers back on and the world just got quieter. My drum ruined ears are ringing less already...
Will get back if my 865 has any issues related to the TORS map with the stock pipes reinstalled (ran just fine this afternoon, couldn't hear or feel any difference in engine performance). Thanks again for the advice!

You won't notice anything until it's too late and it will take a while but running rich will shorten the life of your engine.

roadie, I would prefer to run a bit rich verses running lean. Check the plugs in a few hundred miles they will tell how she's running.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I would rather run with the correct A/F mixture than rich or lean. It is much harder to read plugs with modern fuels than it used to be.

I really appreciate the thoughts and input! There's options and they all make sense... Since my dealership is about 150 miles away, I'll need to block time to get down there and do the remap; and, there's the tune ecu route as well; meanwhile my long time bike mechanic tells me the remap isn't necessary. So, I'm thinking my new scoot will be okay until I can jet down to the dealer. Thanks again for the thoughts and the education!!
