Fractured another mounting bolt today, port side rear... this one was a 10.9; anyone else having this issue?

Higher grade bolts are heat treated medium carbon steel, they are supposed to have enough of the brittle characteristics negated by a tempering secondary heat treat. I have found through experience, grade 5s to be the strongest balance in industrial service. I suspect your high grade failed bolt had an improper heat treat during manufacture. It goes with the tree must bend with the wind in order to not break. A grade 5 will stretch and deform before failure, a grade 10 fails all at once, due to its designed inherent lack of ductility..

I would recommend using 18-8 Stainless steel for this application. A high strength fastener is not really needed, however a tougher one is.
the SS hardware I used on my hard bags (t-bird) has approx. 40K miles on them with not issues.
05 speedmaster - 1100cc, 11:1 racing pistons, Carillo rods, thunderbike cams, ported and polished head, 2mm over intake and exhaust valves, Barnett kevlar clutch, scepter pipes, oversize manifolds, 45mm HSR's, TTP stage 4 firestarter

I didn't use any if their cheap China bolts. I went and bought the correct and strongest bolts I could for my purpose. No issue yet and I have loaded those babies down!

By correct I meant the type I wanted to use. I used a socket style for the fender mounts and a button style on the inside so as not to marr anything I put in there.

Z, I did the same, however I was asking specifically about the fender mount bolts...I went with socket head SS A2 18-8.
