April 2nd. Brookline MA, 4:30PM I am running my America down Harvard Street... Coming toward me on the opposite side of the street, is a guy on a scooter. As he is about to pass me, he does "the wave"! What do I do? What would you do? I waved...at a scooter... I don't know what this world is coming to.

I waved to a scooter yesterday as well... We should start a support group.
My name is Nuthin and I wave at scooters.
Learning from my mistakes... again and again.

Since he waved first, it is ok to wave back. Especially since you are on a Triumph and not a snob or poseur bike.

Wouldnt worry to much. The scooter riders probably more confused by your actions then you are. Hes probably sitting at home right now thinking "a dirty rotten biker waved at me, what does this mean, are they comming to get me, did i do something i shouldn't have, oh why did i get out of bed this morning".

I waved at some old fart riding a scooter the other day. He had a full helmet on with one of those bubble shields and what looked to be googles on underneath the shield. Also had one of thoses bright orange flags strapped on the back of the bike that rose about 5-6 feet in the air. Was too funny not to wave at him.

There's probably some sort of empathy with anyone on two wheels. We all have to put up with the same crap once we get on the road ...

I even wave at Bicyclists. No harm at all in being friendly.

Is the whole wave thing overrated? At times if you are just not paying attention or are in traffic you dont notice the other biker.
Or like yesteray I made full eye contact with I believe a Harley rider and he DID see me but he blew me off like yesterday's news. I wonder if he saw the high sign I flagged him in his mirror after we passed?
Then again maybe he was preoccupied.
Perhaps the whole wave thing is taken too seriously.

I don't wave to scooter trash. It would be disrespectful to our forefather Triumph riders from the 60's. I'm a Rocker, not a Mod. Mods are evil, and should be treated like the scourge they are. Although the above is said a bit tongue-in-cheek, I'm serious...I don't wave to scooters.

I'm with JC and Addey on this one. There's a commonality to anyone on two wheels in my opinion. What the h3ll makes us so special? Just asking the question kind of puts us with those 'other' people. Ya, we all know those 'wave free' Beemer Boys and Hog Daddies.

Well....I don't know. If THIS kind of tolerant friendly acceptance of the scooter-set WERE normal, would we have "Quadrophenia" to enjoy TODAY??? Juuuuust askin'! Cheers, Dwight (I wave)

What do I do? What would you do?
If someone, anyone waves at me, I wave back.. Makes no difference if they are on a bike, scooter, skateboard, wheelchair or just walking down the sidewalk. It's just a nice thing to do and it don't cost you a penny.
Cheers, Brad

Do NOT, under any circumstances, wave back. That would only encourage them to think they are cool. Oh yes, you think, let's be nice to these Scootees because there are so few of them and they need the support. But then they start growing in number, slowly taking away real motorcycles, gathering in packs, using OUR roads and OUR parking spaces. Then once they're here, you can't get rid of them - Bush declares an amnesty for Scootees and then there are millions of them all over the country.
Then they bring their "Scootee ways" into our lives; wearing parkas, drinking cappuccinos, sporting leather loafers, saying "Ciao" when they leave the bar, ordering fancy drinks with fruits hanging out of them, and then demanding equal rights for Scootees.
Finally, they destroy the economy by buying only Italian imports, reducing real motorcycle companies to mere economic shells of their former selves. And then - oh, I hate to say this - in order to compete, Truimph have to bring in the Triumph Scootari, a shameful piece of pseudo-Calabrian design by Phillip Stark, all pink and fluffy with a soft seat for the Scootees' delicate rear ends!
No, Sir, I say stop the rot now and DO NOT WAVE!
If life wasn't so pointless and absurd, I would take it more seriously.

Yeah Siggy...but I understand those scooter riders work cheap, AND do a fantastic job of gardening, to boot!!! And besides....how much DO you want your lettuce to COST anyway, HUH?! Cheers, Dwight (my oh my...I'm SHOCKED to see this intolerant side of you exhibited here)

Dwight: I presume that you meant Quadrophonics rather than Quadrophenia - which you actually CAN listen to, since it's an album. Quadrophonics was arguably the forerunner to what we now call "surround sound" or "Home Theater" or some other variant, so we are (technically speaking) still able to hear that as well.

In addition to my America, I've got an old Lambretta (under reconstruction). When I get it on the road, I would hope for a return wave. We are not snobs. Heck, I even wave at Harleys.

Not sure what I would do. I might need that hand to try and keep a straight face till he was gone. It would be embarrasing to let a scooter tramp see me pee my self from laughing so hard.

I wave. I have had two wheelers of every description including scooters. I even wave at bikers that I think won't wave back. Like Brad said, it's free.

I need to read this more in the morning to wake up. You guys are funny.
Wave at a scooter? I think there is a 12 step program to help you get away from that.
I wave at all that wave at me. Its just the friendly thing to do. Separates us from other bike types.(you know who they are) Aprilla riders lol.
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

As my general rule, I don't wave at scooters unless they wave first. You never know, they may get a Triumph when they grow up because of it.

Wave. Why not? Who cares? Look forward to linking up with you in Mass Mikey, along with Frank. All these Triumph riders near Boston...this is great.

Come to think of it, the handling is so evil with those ickle wheels and too little caster, it could be fun to watch when they take one hand off the handlebar to waive back!
