So today was a beauty of a day. I did all the yard work during the week. Sooooooooo I jumped on the America and rode my but off today. I stopped by the Triumph dealer and was talking to the owner Dan and before I knew it he had me sitting on a Street Twin. Take it for a ride he said. Only had to ask once. Did about 10 miles. What a sweet handling bike. Powerful 0 to 60 in first gear no time flat. Responsive handling great brakes. Triumph has put together a great package in that bike. When I got back to the dealership I told Dan I need that for a loaner bike for a couple days when I bring mine in for service. Yes I can do the service, but if it gets me a fun little bike like that for a couple days I'm all in. Before I left he told me I need to take out a new Bonnie. Maybe next weekend?

Yes they're nice bikes.I haven't ridden one. just seen them at the dealers.
Tell your dealer to keep asking Triumph for a 1,200cc Cruiser Billy.

I think I've got one more new bike purchase, before I hang up my boots and a 1,200cc Triumph cruiser is it!

Oh if only our local dealer had any demo models to take out for a tour or Triumph showed up with a tractor trailer full for a demo day.

Sweet looking ride as I am partial to the black engine.

Dan the owner is an old school guy. He will let anyone ride anything as long as you ride in on a bike. He sells Indian, Victory, and Triumph. Saw him let a guy ride a new Indian Springfield right off the floor today just because he wanted to ride it. He gave me a Thunderbird last year for the weekend. Put almost 300 miles on it.

My riding buddy Porter just took delivery of a T120. He can not praise it enough and he's been doing motorcycle bingo for five years looking for the right ride. I'm hoping he lets me ride it next week.

Bill, how would you compare the performance of street twin to your america? I know 10 miles isn't a fair comparison but first impressions?

From a performance aspect it blows my 2005 America away. Not that I have done anything to to increase the performance of the America. The Street Twin is so well balanced and seemed so lite it feels like you are sitting on a much smaller bike. When you twist the throttle she just out right goes. I am going to take my America in for service and he is going to give me the Street Twin as a loaner so I will let you know more that a first impression after I put a couple hours on it.
The America is about the ride so she will not be going anywhere, but I could see a second horse in the stable. I still have to check out the new Bonnies.

That's what I heard from Porter, tons of easy power and a good ride. When I finally got to his place he'd sent a peg off to some machinist to get the dimensions for a peg lowering replacement (he's 6'6" so that's a pretty standard op for him) and that made the scoot non rideable. Still, the fit and finish is excellent and it comes with the proper items stock, i.e. center stand, grab rail and tach. They've done an excellent job disguising the pipes running to the cat and the radiator is no more obtrusive than our oil coolers. Of course, now I want one...

I don't get the Street Twin with basically the same HP and torque as America and Speedmaster 270 motors.

I am thinking the T120 will outsell it by a very large margin. Also standard pegs and upright riding don't fit in today's cruiser image.

Will purist reject it because its a waterhead?

IMHO the America/Speedy and Thunderbird are cruisers.

The Street Twin has it's Torque lower down in the Rev range where most riding is done. That's why an 883 Sportster feels more powerful than an America in everyday riding, even though it is not more powerful.

I think my 05 790 was rated at 61 HP and 50 lbs of torque. I do remember the little Sporty beating me out of the hole but being about even in the 1/4.

I just wonder how many they will sell with the 1200 available.

Waiting for those 1200 cc motors to end up on EBay from crashed bikes. It will take awhile, but show up, they surely will.

I would prefer the 1200 also, I was just making the point that the Street Twin will feel faster than it is due to the low RPM Torque. I'm not talking about a Drag Race, just everyday riding.

I went to the local Triumph/Ducati Dealer, this past Saturday.
Seems these makes go hand-in-hand these days, like pasta and sauce, or fish and chips, or scotch and soda.. (OK that's enough)
ANYWAY... I was quite smitten with the StreetTwin; black, brutish and menacing. I threw a leg over. She felt real good at the inseam; balanced, comfortable and eager.
The ergonomics felt proper.. as if a tailor had measured me for the ride.
Well, after a proper seat-moistening, I dismounted.

That's when I wandered over to the Thruxton 1200.
What a monster! (Ducati pun, not intentional)

Then, I heard the conversation, between the sales guy and the over-eager prospective buyer.

The sales guy said: I will require a $1,000 deposit today. I cannot promise WHEN your bike will be here. HOWEVER, that $1,000 will ensure the next Thruxton, we uncrate, will be yours. Oh, and I cannot promise a particular color.

WOULDN'T you know.. the prospect said: LET'S DO IT

Gentlefolk, this is not the Triumph show-room of 10 years ago. Our once, niche, quirky brand, has become a full blown, high demand jewel!

It was bizarre.. It was like watching something I had nurtured, and cared for, leap from the nest.. and not only fly, but swoop down, and straight up murder its prey on the decent.

I leave you now to shake my fist, and yell at youths to get off my lawn...

Not to worry my friend. I am still working on doing some updates to get her where I want her. She is very close. Fast Edward has been a big help. Tink is not going anywhere.
