Great Bay Motorcycles, North Hampton, NH
I was disappointed to see that 12/31/15, they shut it down. Having purchased two Triumphs from them.. sad to see it go.
They carried Triumphs, Ducatis, Piaggos and Zero electrics.
I emailed the owner.. he said: "I will fill you in, sometime."
I suspect there is a 'story'.

Sad news to hear another one bites the dust. I wonder if Triumph is making it harder on the small dealerships. I much prefer to go to a locally owned dealership. The big box type of dealerships are a turn off to me.

I suspect the story he'll tell you Mike, will be similar to the one Matt Capri the owner of what used to be called South Bay Triumph/Norton in Lomita CA and now just South Bay Norton told me while visiting my old stompin' grounds of L.A. a few months back.
It seems the old boys in jolly ol' Blighty wanted to force Matt to take a lot more motorcycles into his inventory than what he wanted, and if he didn't they were going to charge him quite a few good ol' American greenbacks for each one he didn't as "penalties". He didn't much care for that idea, and especially because for years he was one of the leading Triumph sales and service dealerships in all this country and had and still has plaques hanging on his walls from Triumph Corp in honor of this.
And so, feeling he wasn't getting a fair shake from the blokes presently running Triumph's corporate sales division, he basically told them in his good ol' American colloquial manner to f*** off, and now his business is just selling those new Nortons and Royal Enfields, and he's expanded his service department to working on all brands of motorcycles.
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Very sad to hear how Triumph Corporate treats their dealers.

That's most likely true of all MC corps. HD is like that and auto makers are even worse. I have an acquaintance, a friend of my brother's, whose family owns the HD dealerships in KC. HD constantly pressures them to expand, they've gone from "old school" to "Wall Mart" size in the last 20 years, their third remodel/build. HD even had approval rights on the overhead lighting used in the shop and showroom.

Yes, it sounds similar to HD. But HD sell basically one style of bike to one style of biker. When I go to a Triumph dealer I'm faced with at least 3 different lifestyles....sports bikes, adventure bikes, cruisers...not to mention hipster bikes.( OK..that's 4). It's all a bit alienating for everyone who goes in to the shop....there's a little bit of what you like and a lot you probably don't. Oh well, at least the bikes are good. Al

They got dropped in the 90s here in San Antonio for pushing so hard on the dealer he refused the truck when it came and sent his signage back in the truck that brought the bikes he didn't order.

In 6 years I bought 5 new bikes from a dealer who was being pressured by Triumph to move to a bigger store in a more accessible location, only sell Triumph accessories / clothing etc. When he said he had almost 2 years left on his current lease, they said tough, you've got to pay it. He dumped Triumph because of their bs then went independent where he lasted about 18 months before shutting the doors for good. It was a shame, they were good people. Nothing was too much trouble

Sad news indeed. Since the local multi-line megastore took over our small independent Triumph/Ducati dealer, I've bought exactly 2 oil filters and one crush washer. I don't even know the backstory, but I just don't feel the love anymore. CycleGear, however, is thriving.

Our local dealer Ottawa Good Times Centre (love em or hate em) seems to be able to handle the push back from Triumph as they also sell BMW, Kawasaki and just took on Can AM Spyder. Good size showroom but those Spyders take up alot of real estate. I hope Triumph sticks around, Montreal is a hike to get parts.

The local dealer here [80ks away] dropped Triumph supposedly because HD pressured them that they'd pull out if they continued with Triumph. That's the rumour anyway. HD sells more bikes in Australia than Triumph. In fact so many that I now say," HDs are like ********.Everyone has one.'

Lost our local dealer from pressure to be a 'boutique' with mandated floor space, decorating, pressure to sell accessories, modeles they did not order...etc.. pretty much finished with them.

It's strange to hear of these marketing practices. I suppose the "corporate brainiacs" at the top know what they're doing, but it sure doesn't seem like it from down here on the ground. I gotta wonder how Baxter Cycle has made it this long. He's the last "old school" type dealer I know who actually sells new Triumphs. And trust me, he is not the "megastore" kind of guy, and his showroom is, how would you say, "quaint". He's also, litterally, in the middle of nowhere, with his market base being at least 30 miles away in the big city of Des Moinse. My "new" local Triumph dealer is a lot closer, only an hour away. But even he is fairly small. But I don't see a new Trumpet coming my way anytime soon. Not till I get the Indian payed off, in four more years. THEN, I'm gonna look at a T100, cause by that time I might be tired of holdin the "big blue monster" up with my "old man" legs!

I would think Baxter Cycle could be an "exception" to the norm in this regard, Rich, and in so much as they're also one of the country's leading dealers of classic Brit iron.
(...btw, I talked to my friend Phil in CA yesterday, you might remember, the guy with about two dozen of THE most beautiful classic motorcycles in his stable, and he REALLY loved the new water-cooled T120 he saw at the Long Beach M/C show last month and he said he's going to get one as soon as they hit the dealer's showroom in his area...he also said he's going to have it custom painted to exactly match the factory paint on his '69 T120)

They must be doing something right, I'm sure it was last year that John Bloor became a billionaire. Btw Dwight, that would be a British English billion which is a million million not a US (sorry S - don't want to a 'U' in there now do we?) American English (surely thats a contradiction in terms) billion which is 'only' a thousand million - created surely to simply allow more people to call themselves billionaires?

Baxter has remodeled as compared to the past. They also have buildings in Marne with inventory not in the show room. Engle also remodeled their prehistoric old school dealership in the last ten years. Engel been a BMW / Triumph dealer since 1956. Point being that these two dealers towed the Triumph line of BS for a long time and been successful.

I'm surprised that the dealership near me is still in business. I've stopped in several times looking for accessories, and they don't stock anything. I've e-mailed them looking for parts, and have always been told they can't get them. I order everything online now.

I have Triumph of Lafayette across the street from my office. They are also an Indian-Victory-Polaris dealer. I can tell you year round they are always having Indian-Victory-Polaris events that are all driven and supported by Polaris. They have a great selection of Triumphs, great prices, and a newly remodels show room. I think the Triumph showroom is bigger than the Indian area. Today is going to be in the 50s so I am sure I will be stopping in and will get some pics. I do not see Triumph driving the dealership to do events and supporting them. Everything seems to be in the Chicago area. Sad that my America always draws a crowd in the parking lot when I am there more than the Triumph Showroom.

The biggest Triumph dealer here in Victoria also sells Harley and Honda in the same showroom, another smaller dealer I know of also sells Yamahas in the same showroom as triumphs.

I wonder if Triumphs demands is why Hermy went from the cool mom and pop place I used to know to what they are now. I liked it much better before.

I know the dealership 6 hours away from my place was forced to either move their dealership from where they currently are to a much larger city 45 minutes away or lose the Triumph line. The dealership refused and lost the franchise. Got this right from the owner. They were a Triumph only dealership. Now they are taking over the Polaris line. Still service Triumphs and any other ride for that matter but...... Down to 4 dealerships in Ontario not that I'll ever go to one for servicing but I do like dropping in to see the jewellery, if they have any in stock.

WOW. Great Bay was like THE New England Triumph dealer back when I got my bike and first got on the forums. Got a jacket from them in 2002. Still wear it. There were other dealers (got my bike in Shrewsbury, MA, are they still there?), but Great Bay was it. Shame.... Please fill us in when the story breaks!

Seems the info I first read might've been outdated.. The goalposts have moved to make em match.
Oxford English Dictionary says ...
In British English, a billion used to be equivalent to a million million (i.e. 1,000,000,000,000), while in American English it has always equated to a thousand million (i.e. 1,000,000,000). British English has now adopted the American figure, though, so that a billion equals a thousand million in both varieties of English.
The same sort of change has taken place with the meaning of trillion. In British English, a trillion used to mean a million million million (i.e. 1,000,000,000,000,000,000). Nowadays, it's generally held to be equivalent to a million million (1,000,000,000,000), as it is in American English.
Whatever, it's a bloody lot !

6 hours from Timmons they could have been in Moosenee Where are they Greg? Some friends hawl their bikes down to the Montreal dealer who has been into British iron for 40 years and is a Triumph only dealer.

Last week I ordered Tourrest for my America so my wife can enjoy the ride this summer. I had it sent to my office. The local Triumph shop is across the Street from my office. Yesterday I got a call from Chad the Triumph sales guy telling me they had my package. Apparently the Fed Ex guy saw Triumph on the box and delivered it to the dealer. They spent almost an hour trying to figure out who ordered it and who it was for before they looked at the packing slip with my info on it. Now that is funny. I talked to Chad about how much support he gets and boy did he unload on me. Polaris is driving them hard so the Indians, Victory s, and Polaris get all the attention. He has a ton of 2014 and 2015 he will let go for invoice. I took a few pictures for your enjoyment. For Sale one time good deal JoeSo Sad

Paul, No Kidding. Nothing close to my place. The dealership in Stayner is the one I was talking about. Concerning the Ontario dealers, I've dropped in and purchased goodies from all of them. Sturgess in Hamilton, Goodtime Center in Ottawa, GP Bikes in Whitby and my Rocket from Inglis Cycle in London. In Quebec, I've dropped in to Moto Montreal and I think I purchased a windshield from Monette Motosports years ago. Long way from my place but I get around. With my son building a home in Ottawa, I'll be down that way a lot more....in the summer that is....sigh

Triumph is not doing themselves any favors driving the mom and pop shops out and lessening the distribution network and decreasing exposure.
